Fair enoughski. I’ve no issue with that: he’s obviously wrestled with it for a while.

a 2/3s majority to change the legislation in the future is going a bit far. it’s arrogant in the extreme to think that they’ll get this right and not require amendment down the road.
i’m glad he’s changed his mind, but you don’t want to be left with a restrictive regime that’s in lots of ways harder to change than the constitution.

I heard Brendan Howlin say that this proposal is unconstitutional as the constitution explicitly states that a simple majority is all thats needed to pass legislation in the Dail.

I’d say his “wrestling” with this issue has more to do with figuring out how lose the least amount of votes with his waffling.

I’m no fan of his: I think he’s all polish, not much brainpower. But I believe him on this.

You could be right, but he’s not a man who would fill you with a lot of confidence. He makes varadkar look like a statesman which is not easily done.

Meanwhile antis are losing it that Golden Boy has moved to the “dark side”. I’ve seen posters on p.ie (don’t you judge me!!!) lamenting that there’s no party for conservative christians now. Suggestions of Renua have been met with the usual horror.

    I dunno
I think it has as much to do with Cork South Central being a one to watch in the next GE
And the fact that he has 2/3s of the Blue Shurts in his camp

meh. yep. I’d be surprised if the matter was a particularly personal hot topic for sailor boy. pure election strategy is my take…blatant vote management a la king…Lowry etc.

      1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

I dunno. It’s a fairly divisive topic to take a stand on, isn’t it?
Or maybe I’m a gullible fule.

    And the circus continues
We still do not know exactly what is going to replace the eight
Simon conveney has let the cat out of the bag
Once the protection is gone the government can just do what ever they want
Ireland will have abortion on demand if this is passed
    That’s the intention all along
A disposable society where life means little
