No mention in the real UK papers about the “big” UK trial.

What an odd little island we are.

For somebody now in favour of repeal of the 8th amendment and the crazy legislation to follow, the Tanaiste is really playing a blinder sowing doubt about repeal.

      1. newsjustin

The obvious doubts and last minute suggestions (which don’t get met) don’t really convince anyone he’s behind repeal or the legislation. If not, why not is the question.

Watch yourself there newsy, it sounds like you’re starting to believe your own BS. As for coveney, he really has gone of the rails. Everday he is coming out with a suggestion which is weirder than the one before.

if your point is that he should just stick to his pro-life convictions then yeah, i probably agree with you. he’s making a bit of a mess of being empathetic, decent and sound.

It is exactly this, the crazy legislation to follow, and unlike before the constitution can no longer ,if the eight is removed .
Cast your mind back to Nazi Germany and how Hitler could murder all those Jews.
You might think oh this nut harping on about Germans but this is exactly the fact.
Hitler had to remove the constitutional protection for Jews in order to carry out the final solution.
It is our constitution that protects us in law. And in order for laws to pass they must not violate our constitution.
We do not know what laws are to follow ,and once this protection is removed then that is it ,we can have abortion for any reason, or maybe 12 week or 26 week old foetuses being aborted in years to come by the stroke of a pen, by politicians infringing on the rights of our people ,old or young or just little babies., or not yet born babies.
This is about our country our constitutional rights, and Simon coveney is looking at this which is a red flag being identified
This is why it is imperative that we replace the eight with what is on the ballot paper, not leave a big open space trusting our politicians to replace it with something we do not know.

Paddy Jackson, a man’s man. Bringing bromance to a new level. 6 men 1 woman is in no way gay eh?

      1. Martco

I would hope there’s not too many men or women out there who would see them as any kind of an ideal role model whatsoever.

small suggestion to ye all today – if you have to have a radio on try avoid any of the talkshite stuff – tune to nova or whatever music station rings ur bell. yep I am promoting “fingers in ears alalalalalala” behaviour….occasionally tools to maintain your sanity and prevent stress are useful!

Why can’t Twink sell her house, pay off her debt and buy another with the cash from the equity? Or get a job? The bloody entitlement in this country.

  6. GiggidyGoo

Coveney outdoing himself again. I wonder where he is getting his advice. Perhaps a Varadkar plant in the Coveney camp.
A scan between 9 and 12 weeks, with a two year waiting list for scans. This is it? This is the quality of bucko, like Kenny, Noonan and. Varadkar, that ‘represent’ us on the world stages? ,

    Talking about rape.
Lets celebrate the birthday this week of the civil servant who did his national duty to save this nation .
The man who devised the upping of the retirement age fromm65 to 67 then higher thus stealing 12 grand a year off all people not yet retired.
After a long faithful career, he retired at 61 years of age with a golden handshake retirement package of 90 thousand euros a year, and a tax free lump sum of well in excess of 100 grand.
    Now that is rape
I am one of the lucky ones with only 24000 euros stolen off me from my retirement by this KAPO regime. And that’s on top of what they have already taken off us.

    1. Twunt

You cannot steal something from a person if they never had it.
But lets expand on your flawed logic, you could also say mandatory retirement is stealing the right of people to continue earning beyond the age of 65.

      1. mildred st. meadowlark

Well said. My father-in-law loves his job and gets immense satisfaction from his work. He’s in his sixties and has absolutely no intention of retiring. It would be a disservice to him to force him out of a job he loves simply because of his age.

        1. postmanpat

Is he self employed or an equal partner? Because continuing to want to work for someone else when you don’t need the money is a sign of a sad individual with no self respect. Plus he’s holding up a position that a younger person needs. Your father-in-law does nothing to dispel the image of all greedy baby boomers pulling the ladder up behind them. But he gets immense satisfaction from his work. That’s nice. It’s no comfort to struggling young families but its nice to hear all the same. bless.

          1. mildred st. meadowlark

It’s a good point, in fairness to you.

But he has a mortgage to pay off and a family who still require support. But that’s just one person and one situation. I agree that he may well be holding back people who are younger and wanting to climb the ladder (I confess I hadn’t seen it that way immediately) but his reasons for wanting to continue working are valid. It’s another case of one size solution not suiting everyone – but that is how these things usually work.

          2. david

            Postman pat
So someone must give up their job because a younger person wants it
Well I suppose the me me generation of spoilt brats have a god given right?
My original post regarding the civil servant who did this was about ,working your whole life and paying into a system and having two years pension taken off you because you have to wait two extra years to access it.
Now during those two years you might die and the government retains that 24 grand they have delayed paying you.and avoids paying you any of the money you contributed to your retirement.money you have paid over the decades of employment.
The point is that as well as what they have taken off you already of extra USC taxes on your pension ,stealth taxes they have also taken this off you.
And just to impress to you,
It was the baby boomers and their parents that brought and fought for all the rights you enjoy today.
Health ,education ,social welfare ,were not just handed out, they were fought for by people fought hard for to create a better future for guess who? You
So show some ,and remember your parents reared you put food in your mouth, educated you, protected you, and when they get old and revert to being dependent on others for their care ,like when you depended on them for rearing, you will most probably put them in the cheapest home you can ,and moan about having to fork out of your inheritance (and bang goes the dosh from the sale of their house).
And maybe you might just take an hour off from your busy schedule to pay a dutiful visit.
Then it all comes round full circle when your kids grow up.

        2. david

          You miss the point
When I was talking pension its from the contribution I made all my working life.
I do not have a private pension but a state pension of which I paid into
When I started working the retirement age was 65.
I made a contract with the government when I took up a job to work pay taxes and receive a pension at 65, which I assume under contractual law is legally binding both ways.

The new age is 67 to claim ,and by law an employer can dismiss you at 65.
That means if you are forced to retire and you have savings ,you will have it means tested to get social welfare past the six months or so when your stamps cover the dole.
And try getting a job past 60.
Without consultation the age was raised to 67 for me
That means 2 years a gap now.
Thankfully I run my own pub ,but that is beside the point.
The fact a public sector worker can claim his or hers pension at 61 without sanction and tax free lump sum rubs the salt into he wound .
The fact I will not get that pension till I am 67 means I will be forced to work those two years ,saying that I love working and will be working until I drop.

      2. david

Maybe if the public sector all had to wait until they were 67 minimum to receive their pensions,
then I would say you would be agreeing with me.
And as usual jumping the gun and twisting words ,you state something I did not state in the context it is.
Suppose your pension fund did not pay you out what you paid in to ?
I suppose your view would not be ,well no one can steal off you what you never had.
