O’Riordan will have no option but to fight this. Paddy Jackson will have all his conduct during the trial re examined by jurors who this time will decide on the basis of probabilities. Very high risk strategy from the Jackson legal team.

    1. Frilly Keane

      Ah
      Jackson is sueing no-one

      Unless they’ve deep pockets
      And even then it’s risky
Since they’re more than likely to be smarter that him anyway

      1. some old queen

It’s like when an Irish family fight over a will and someone asks who got the farm? The answer is always.. ‘the solicitors’.

        1. mildred st. meadowlark

          IT WAS MEEEEEEE!

(It wasn’t really. I couldn’t find my way into a courthouse if I tried.)

          1. Frilly Keane

            Well Bert
You are one of the most prolific commenters here, so therefore I’m going to say I’m entitled to presume you follow most of the commentary here.

Surely ta’Jaysus you must have noted the numerous posts by Shayna where she refers to her home base and that she’s a Tyrone O’Neill.

It’s should have been no shock to any Broadsheeter that the Shayna O’Neill who regularly talks about her Tyrone Football connections, work history, and friendship (since College) with JR
might also be the Shayna O’Neill who served on the jury of this Rape Trial.

Just how many Shayna O’Neill’s do you think are Broadsheet regulars ….

Is it really that much of a leap for you to cop on that the Shayna here, who on several occasions over the last few years that you yourself have been a visitor, informed us all that her family name is O’Neill, could actually be the same Shayna O’Neill that reached out to Broadsheet to contribute to the Rape Verdict discussion threads, before any other news platform.

Your determination to keep pulling on any loose thread you can is quite telling.

          2. Bertie Blenkinsop

Well Frilly, it may surprise you to know I don’t read every post on here, for example I don’t read your Bake Off stuff as I don’t watch the show.

The only reason I made the link is because the have the same name.

As Brother Barnabas said, different writing styles.

I’d no idea she was pals with JR, why would I know or care for that matter?

Not everyone has a hidden agenda or is out to cause mischief.

          3. Frilly Keane

            Sure

And you never replied to any of her Tyrone Football comments mentioning her family either

            Shur’ ya didn’t

          4. Bertie Blenkinsop

Even if I did, why would I have cause to remember such a trivial exchange?

I hope you get the row you’re clearly spoiling for Frilly, I’m going to watch the end of the match.

          5. anne

            What’s the insinuation?

Was the complainant a prod by the way? There were some comments from Shayna – family name O’Neill, about the complainant’s “mammy & daddy’s million pound home”.

Would yourself & himself know? It kinda reeked of some class divisions from Beaalfast.

          6. Frilly Keane

            Tried that 2 days ago
            And it didn’t work

Or maybe a few around here still wanted to prove it wrong

            Anyway
            Tis job done now.
            Happy Bank Holiday Weekend Brudder

          7. rotide

If it’s any consolation, i don’t remember any of that stuff. I just recognised the name ‘shayna’ and remembered that she was a fanatical nordie.

Not everyone is going to keep an annotated database on every commenter here.

          8. Yep

I know how it feels, Bertie. When people read too much into what you say. Accuse you of things when all you’re trying to do is have a conversation. Even after you try and explain…

            It hurts…hurts real bad….mmmfff….

    1. Matt Lucozade: The Only Reader of the Village

There is an Irish Times. You can’t miss it with the big Rugby head on it and ROCK inside. So much for the Orna Mulcahy and #ibelieveher expressions, Rugby is still being used to sell the Irish Times…

    1. petey

what, are they denying that the basement of a pizzeria in DC was the locus of a clinton family pedophile ring?
      #qanon

    2. Frilly Keane

      Who owns de”xaminer dere bhoy

Dat crowd … dere by da’ college ….. up in Dublin …. s’it?

    3. david

      Well
I have never seen such outrage peddled by men
      haters
Girls you are adults and to be honest are responsible for your actions
They were tried and found not guilty
So they had a sex party so what?
I presume this goes on every day as humanity gets their rocks off?

      Now they are disgraced

      1. mildred st. meadowlark

I know you’re incapable of understanding nuance, but it’s a bit more complicated than that, despite the fact it’s so much fun to use it as yet another reason to hate women.

        1. david

          No
Who knows what people get off on
          Men and women
          Gang bangs
          Group sex
          Threesomes
          Bondage
          S&M not M&S
You do not know peoples kinks which some sex therapists say is healthy
Just read cosmopolitan and many women publications
That’s fine if you are into that
          She cried rape
The guys were found innocent case not proven
Also these guys should be ashamed of themselves full stop
But to accuse me of being a women hater show’s your prejudice

          1. mildred st. meadowlark

            I’m sorry but… what?

Is this some sort of obscure free verse? Are we exchanging poetry now?

            I carry my shame around
            like handkerchiefs

            They crease and fold
            absorb the wear of life
become the fabric of my skin.

Stitches in the fibrils of self-
            flashes of colour, iridescent
            and light.

            They are me and
            I am them.

  2. Catherine costelloe

Shane o Farrell’s 30th birthday was yesterday. His parents Lucia and Jim desperately seeking GSOC report into his 2011 hit and run tragic death.
Its an absolute disgrace to be torturing them like this.

    1. david

      This case was shocking .
A hit and run and the driver of the vicar given a eight month suspended sentence provided he left the country.
What sort of judge decides this?
Maybe it was a case the state did a cost analysis of this ,and realised they could save hundreds of thousands of euro that could go into the fund to pay higher pensions for retired judges
That judge deserved to be struck off
      And all involved dismissed.
We are a really corrupt country and our establishment really cannot be trusted

  3. SOQ

Ulster and Ireland rugby player Paddy Jackson… Pretty sure that is EX Ulster and Ireland rugby player Paddy Jackson…

No mention of it but was there drugs involved in that after party? Certainly sounds like it.

      1. SOQ

Not that I am aware of but parties which go on until morning usually have some element of it.

  4. Jackdaw

So is Siobhan Philips saying that she didn’t know her partner was is in the IRA and he didn’t keep illegal firearms in the house. Just curious. I’m sure she didn’t.

    1. fergalfurious

Go and watch the Prime Time episode on the case and you will no longer have to pretend to be obtuse.

      1. david

And the woman who made a complete ass of her self
So close every pub every night club.
So a guy who meets a girl on the night they have sex ,and all consenting then in the morning she feels mortified for what she did when drunk and changes her mind
A reasonable question put to her and guess what ?she refused to answer it.
So all men are scum rapists if that is the case.
I think there is an out break of harveyitus on the broad sheet

        1. Brother Barnabas

“she feels mortified for what she did when drunk and changes her mind”

happens for sure that people – men and women – regret sex when they sober up. it doesn’t lead to rape claims. stop peddling that misconception. it’s ugly misogynism, nothing else.

  5. GiggidyGoo

Broadsheet – ‘The News in The News’
The Times has outed itself yesterday and basically admitted that they are unable or unwilling to do actual investigative reporting themselves. Some ‘newspaper’ alright. A suckler from the advertorials to depend on its survival?

    1. jusayinlike

Whining for a data commissioner to police the internet, they have the hots for broadsheet..

      1. GiggidyGoo

yep. It’s odd the way a ‘news’paper goes out of its way to stymie news. Broadsheet had shown up most of the Irish media to be toothless lapdogs.

          1. GiggidyGoo

For example, the excellent detailed coverage and detailed explanation of the McCabe inquiry.

          2. rotide

Well, I’d counter that with the Times’ excellent non partisan coverage of the trial we’re actually talking about here.

          3. GiggidyGoo

You asked how Broadsheet has shown them up. I gave you an example. Your example may be correct but did they do the same as regards McCabe? They did nothing like BS did detail and explanation wise.

    2. rotide

This is really confusing me. You say that The Times are unable to do investigative reporting, but they spotted Shayna’s comments on this website and then contacted Shayna to (presumbaly) confirm them. How is that not both reporting and investigative?

I understand that you are angry that they grassed her up, but let that be your gripe rather than contradicting yourself

      1. Frilly Keane

as far as I can tell Rottie
The Irish Times didn’t contact Shayna ah’tall
She contacted them, after they squealed, and arranged a skype so they could agree she was the one and the same person they saw in the Jury benches every day for 9 and a bit weeks

      2. GiggidyGoo

You should really follow the chain of events. Once you use ‘presumably’ you’ve already lost your argument.

  6. Peter Dempsey

The Journal seem to have disabled all comments on the trial articles. They’re fond of silencing opinions – do it a lot.

    1. Nigel

In all the newspaper offices editors are chomping on cigars and stabbing desktops with their fingers screaming at unpaid interns that they want pictures of Bodger on their desk by noon or thry’re fired..

          1. mildred st. meadowlark

            I know.

Wishful thinking on my part. Reminds me of the old Spiderman cartoons of a Saturday morning as a child.

          2. Brother Barnabas

            nigel’s contributions are a delight

I’m still enjoying the civil war fallen comments one

          3. rotide

That comment deserves a place in any future hall of fame.

Doubly so given the fact that most of his comments were being insta-deleted at the time:)

  7. SOQ

I believe her protests @1pm Belfast City Hall and @ 2pm Dublin City Hall. Probably in most other towns and cities too. They clearly have never heard of the Streisand effect. Talk about throwing petrol on the fire. Twitter’s going mad. A few examples.

Rebeccah Louise‏ @RebeccahLouise: Suing someone because they called you middle class is the most middle class thing ever

Gavin Elliott‏ @sgelliott: #suemePaddy is trending in the number one spot. A remarkable achievement by Paddy Jackson’s legal team.

Mrs Whearty‏ @BelfastBabs: Paddy Jackson appears to have succeeded where @sinnfeinireland failed by uniting Ireland with #SueMePaddy and #IBelieveHer

  8. Friscondo

Jackson will need to spend rest of his life in court with the sordid details of his admitted behaviour and messages being dragged out again, if as threatened, they’ll sue everyone who retweeted I Believe Her. Digging a deeper hole now with people tweeting even more graphic stuff about him and Sue Me Paddy now trending at No 1 in Ireland. They might have deep pockets, but not that deep. Unbelievable, how he’s single handedly halted terminal decline of Labour Party. People will be only too keen to fund O’Riordan. His is being incredibly badly advised. Refused to show some contrition, whilst maintaining innocence, like Olding did.

    1. SOQ

Agreed. His threats are so arrogant that even people who would have given him the benefit of the doubt must be thinking twice. And I expect that most seeking legal advice will be steering clear of that KRW outfit now too.

A pretty good indication of the strength of feeling is that slightly under 50k signed the petition in just three days. It will be interesting to see the numbers at today’s protests.

      https://www.change.org/p/irfu-conduct-a-review-of-jackson-olding-macilroy-and-harrison-s-behaviour

      1. rotide

Are you or any of the signatories aware that only two of those guys actually play for Ulster and Ireland?

One of them doesn’t even play Rugby in Ireland. The other plays club rugby and has never played for Ulster.

        1. Brother Barnabas

the 50,000 demanding that the IRFU “review Paddy Jackson’s conduct” might have missed the statement from the IRFU within hours of the verdict:

“To respect the judicial proceedings the IRFU and Ulster Rugby postponed any internal review of the matter with the players, until the proceedings concluded.
IRFU and Ulster Rugby officials will review the matter, in line with existing procedures for all contracted players.
“A review committee, made up of senior representatives of the IRFU and Ulster Rugby, has been appointed and will conclude its review as soon as practicable. The players will continue to be relieved of all duties while the review committee is in process and determining its findings.”

          1. SOQ

I expect the idea is to apply pressure to the IRFU and also a focus for people to vent their anger at the verdict and/or behavior of the defendants?

        2. Cian

I think we need to review the 32 county rugby team. And revert to a 26 county team. Let the 6 counties firm their own team.

          1. SOQ

Absolutely not. Rugby is the only sport that has successfully bridged the tribal divide which is ironic given that in the north it would be considered more a protestant sport.

If anything this is progress because people are dividing on something other than ‘normal’ politics. The fact that the protest in Dublin attracted more than Belfast is telling mind.

  9. david

Jesus not a mention from the Israeli bashers yet
Over hummus on the Gaza border during the Passover

    1. italia'90

The Israeli bashers were busy yesterday murdering 16 unarmed Palestinian protesters.
Sounds like you might be the type to get a perverse sense of pride and joy from it all.

      1. david

        Took you long enough.
No pride just sadness that still the Gaza residents are led down the road by their political and terrorist masters used as human shields and cannon fodder .
        Israel will be forever there.
From 1947 they have been stateless when they refused their homeland under the French mandate simply because they did not want to live next to Jews
They wanted it all and got nothing ,but alas they tried violence force time and time again.
        Even after
        Countless wars started by themselves
        Hijacking planes
Murdering athletes at the Munich Olympics
Countless missiles fired at guess who?
        Murders
        Shootings
        Stabbings
        Kidnapping
But hay your Jew hating just oozes off your script.
You cannot even argue a point by rational fact
Just propaganda from the free Gaza stand manned by Sinn feinn types.
