Do you not think it might have been a good idea to contact the Bernard Shaw with your idea, Ultan? It’s on their property.

Perhaps crowd fund a glass protection over this mural and sentiments. It’s not even clear whose property its on. Looks like a temporary hoarding to me… not a wall.It will go eventually.

It’s one of the most poignant things I’ve seen in this city for a long time.
    Would be a fantastic idea.
Even better if we could make a copy and put it close to John Waters house…

It would be good to have a more permanent tribute.
Not sure if Bodytonic would be up for it though, as they regularly sell this hoarding space for advertising

Lads, it’s on wooden hoarding. You could just lift it out and do whatever you want with it. It’s not like it’s painted on the side of a building.

It’s a bit of a pity that someone’s already scribbled on her forehead though.

That’s cause we can’t have anything beautiful without some scrote trying to wreak it

Yes of course. As they will be building there shortly, perhaps it could be moved to the cross in the Phoenix Park and a small information and meditation centre build beside it.

There’s a nice new open area beside Dublin port HQ.
Would be fitting many could now go here to pay tribute / reflect, instead of having to travel over the water.

I think an investigation into the charities regulator and his apparent biased behavior during the referendum. It had always appeared to me that there is an invisible hand in some parts of the Government, people who have state jobs but who’s allegiance sometimes appears to be to the Vatican rather than this republic …

Its very hard to prove, but in the case above it seemed clear enough to me ….

Every single RC church I passed had a big sign attached to the railings/wall which said Every life is sacred. They were not there 4 months ago. They were clearly promoting a vote in a particular direction. The Repeal mural had to be taken down as the project is a charity. Well, should that not hold through for the church’s as well.

When I commented on this yesterday I was labelled a No-voting racist. So just for the record, I voted Yes and fully support the legalisation of abortion.

However, it wasn’t a lack of such a law that killed Savita. It was a combination of sepsis (tragic bad luck) and poor medical care (standard HSE incompetence). If the doctors had done their job, the legal background would have been a purely academic consideration. That’s not a random point of view. The Coroner recorded the cause of death as ‘medical misadventure’ and, at the time, her husband seemed to share that view. But perhaps they’re just racists too.

The level of mob sentiment around this unfortunate woman’s legacy has become detached from what actually happened, and as with all mobs, it’s not a pretty thing to behold.

Comments like this defy all logic. It is a fact that, had she had received a termination when she requested it, she would be alive. The Professor who carried out the review has stated that a termination would have saved her life. That there were other factors at play does not detract from this simple truth.

      1. Jones

Fact is a very strong word. He/She said there’s a good chance she’d be alive today had she been granted an abortion. But there is no way to know.

All the factors are important as they all contributed. But as the OP said, medical misadventure was ruled the cause of death.

As an aside, do Savita’s family want her name plastered everywhere? Genuine question.

        1. Boj

Her parents seem ok with it. I do recall a request from her husband for her image not to be used in this campaign, but I could be mistaken.

You are using the Coroners report as a fact to back up your statement. But if she had died as a direct result of the 8th amendment then what would the Crooner have put? Can a Coroner put down the cause of death as ‘constitutional legislation’

Its possible that medical misadventure is just the ‘other’ box on the form.

Either way it doesn’t change the fact that the husband requested an abortion for his wife but it was refused. The couple were not able to make a decision on her healthcare because of the 8th,

Just get out of here with your facts, waving them about like we should consider them important. We don’t like the use of information or expert witnesses giving their views. We want to stay on this bandwagon #SavitasLaw

    4. Dinny Do Well?

You’re wrong again. The use of the word “mob” says it all with your mentality.

  8. Elron

I think we should let a few months pass before making any decisions that may look foolish in some time or just be hard to explain when he context passes.

Right in front of the Papal Cross eyesore in the Phoenix Park would be an ideal location.
