Unless it’s very windy: it might move a bit in that case but I presume they’ve made provision for that eventuality.

Speaking of locusts, whats the story with drones during the event?
I’m sure it’ll make for some great footage, but will they be banned from a security point of view?

your comments of late have been a DISGRACE, rotide. i wouldn’t compare you to hitler because you’re WORSE. I’d go as far as to say you’re even worse than caligula – and not far short of enver pasha. it’s not acceptable.

It’s the diabetes that’ll get me. You can come jogging with me, and then we can be smug jogging buddies.

The folks in the office just love hearing about my exploits. And you get the added bonus of tingly knees without any intervention from the Pope.

I like that the cheapo sweets in Lidl are made by a company called Sugarland. No pretence there.

          2. rotide

            Jogging with Mildred?

I’m not sure I’d fancy moving that slowly in the open beside you. Bertie is a bad shot, but modern scopes do wonders for aim

You’d hear a muffled roar of pain, followed by a PEW PEW. The last two sounds you’d hear.

Let’s not be churlish. Let’s hope the event is well organised, attended, and is safe. I’m not a follower, but for those that do, good luck. I hope it doesn’t rain and nobody is upset on the day for whatever reason.

Mind you, it would be nice if they could leave the infrastructure there for other gigs for the community to enjoy. Anyone got Madonna’s mobile number?

(Is there really an Irish engineering company called Obelisk? Surely O’Belisk.Nah. https://obelisk.com/)

I heard they are setting up a morgue on site.
No doubt a large percentage will be of an elderly / frail disposition.
Given the walks / queues could be long, they obviously expect some to not make it home.

Will there be food stalls / booze etc…?
I don’t see any portaloos in those pics??

      1. Rob_G

I don’t know if that is true, but if there are 500,000 people in attendance, you could expect at least 10 people to die*

*there was something on Q.I. on the average person having about a 1 in 42,000 chance of dying on a given day. As the age profile for attendance at this event could be a lot higher than average, there could be quite a few deaths
        :(

        1. Jeffrey

Yeah its down to statistics and so there will be a number of death for sure, just like on any given day.

      1. Grace

Ha yeh genuine faith in a corrupt, paedophile hiding, woman hating, LGBT judging global organization run by a creepy cohort of old men in a medieval city state. Sure that’s just great!

          1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Fair enough. I run with agnosticism. I might turn to religion when I’m old just in case: hence I’ve no real problem with aul biddies giving it a lash.

Yay let’s celebrate an organisation dedicated to the coverup of thousands of rapes of children.

        Woot! Paaarrrrtay!!!

        1. Rob_G

No, not celebrate – just treat it with indifference, it requires a lot less effort than going out of your way to get exercised over it.

      A: Coz Chernobyl Fall Off.
I can’t remember the question that leads to that hilarious response.

  2. Starina

The fact that there’s a morgue on site really says it all about the average age of Church fans.

    1. ZeligIsJaded

Well there is a plenary indulgence in place so the incentive is strong.

Anyone popping their clogs on the day will be in paradise quicker than you can say ‘suicide bomber’!

  3. Daisy Chainsaw

Has the running order been released yet?

A fiver on Nathan Carter opening with “Don’t Stop Believing.”

    1. Brother Barnabas

unconfirmed report that the final encore will see the pope himself join the priests and brothers of ardagh and clonmacnois for a karaoke rendition of sweet child o’ mine

        1. Brother Barnabas

we should really have a playlist – “tunes for a holy show”

          how about it, bodger?

I’d like to add Money, Money, Money

          1. Otis Blue

Andy White’s glorious Religious Persuasion offers a uniquely Irish perspective.

            “A lamb to the slaughter
            a human sacrifice
            I told their spiritual leader
            his sceptre looked nice
a hymn book skimmed my ear
            but I was only grazed
            I dived for cover
            as the sawn-off Bibles blazed
            in the gore I gasped
            “Was it something I said?”
            then a solid granite altar
            hit me on the head
a collection plate plunged deep into my groin
            they marched off discussing
            the Battle of the Boyne”

            And so on

Anyway when all is said and done I hope those attending have a good day and the weather holds off.
I’m not a religious person but I respect the profound sense of importance the Pope’s visit has for most ordinary and decent Catholic folk. The ones I know are as ashamed about the failings of the Catholic church as everyone else.
The irony is the herd mentality of people on here taking cheap shots at the herd mentality of those attending.

    1. Brother Barnabas

fair play, charger. not matter what anyone says about you, can’t ever say you’re not an open-minded and dignified man with respect and compassion for all

  5. bigx

We should have arranged a concert for the following night to get some value for the tax payers money.
U2 would be good, someone who thinks he is gods man on earth followed the next night by someone who thinks he is god.
Or some nutter heavy metal band, think of what they could use the cross for in their act.

  6. AndrewSB49

I remember the 1979 visit. The whole street was empty. I was able to haul my record-player out to the front garden and proceed to play Beggars Banquet (including very LOUDLY Sympathy for the Devil), Let it Bleed (Gimme Shelter very LOUDLY), Sticky Fingers & Exile on Main Street one after the other without any injunction to tone it down. I doubt if I’ll get away with that this visit!!!
