This morning.
Phoenix Park, Dublin
Mass goers arrive for the service to mark the World Meeting of Families officiated by Pope Francis.
More as we get it.
Earlier: Shriney Happy People
Meanwhile…

Fundamentalism is the philosophy of the conquered and the fettered
Not just them Janet
Market capitalism, liberalism, etc have equally fundamentalist adherents
spawned from a landscape of despair and the depair of freedom
Phil Daniels voice…
“Pro-life!”
It’s got nothing to do with Vorsprung durch technique, you know?
Each and everyone attending is a traitor to Ireland.
See that’s where you’re fella.
*wrong. You’re wrong, fella.
So it now seems latest allegations of the pope knowing about abuse and either turning a blinds eye or collusion are emerging VIA the USA
And the faithful gather
I just wonder where god stands on this and catholic people regarding their church
Maybe its time for another referendum to remove the catholic church from our constitution
I always remember that sketch by David mc savage in the savage eye where the last Irish priest was rooted out of his hiding place a sewer
It seemed at the time off the wall but maybe this is what is needed
Remove them from every aspect of our lives for an organisation that is prepared to do nothing to rid its self of evil perversions has no place in a nation
And how can people support this church when its guilty of this and unprepared to act
“I just wonder where god stand”
Wonder no more. God doesn’t exist so God stands nowhere.
Ye of little faith
I still believe in god but ask how dose he abandon so many
Mind you what was the point of the skoda
Exactly what did varadkar talk about with pope Frances ?
He can’t abandon anyone because he doesn’t exist.
I’m an atheist david, that means I have no faith, not little.
Grow up.
Tell that to the children of Ireland who never got to grow up safely. Who were robbed of their innocence. Who were robbed of their lives. Who were robbed of their families. Who never got to grow up feeling the love of their mothers. Who were institutionalised, brutalised, sodomised and marginalised. Grow up meearse.
Spot on
Maybe its in our nature that we turn a blind eye to this then when the truth emerges we act with outrage through being found out
How much will it take before Irish people stand up an demand accountability and justice
All we got was talk and why that was done was to ensure a successful event without any sign of up setting the head of the catholic church while here
Millions spent on an obscene event of hypocrisy
And back now to normal until they find the next mass grave where babies born in sin are disposed like garbage
Great to see the rain blowing over for what will be a wonderful occassion for the half million attending attending.
And notice the amount of single use plastic ponchos that will be dumped after the day
Maybe half a million
And is the EU not banning single use plastics
And is the pope not all for saving the whale with environmental bull
Nice shot of de tea shock wearing his disposable single use plastic poncho on de news RTE
And where will these plastics be disposed not china now
Is that you, Spicey?!
No but I just thought is the pope not out spoken regarding the environment ?
And as its high on the agenda regarding single use plastics why our tea shock wears one ?
Surly on the money he is earning he can afford an overcoat
That’s the oddest guitar yer man is playing. I never say a double neck one with a round soundbox like that. Three chairs for him.
Back to the fashion stakes, I like the African woman’s getup in pic four. It must have been tempting to throw on jeans, runners and a fleece given the weather and the hike, but instead she pulled out all the stops. Respect!
Very disappointed all round. The thing in the church and the park last night; truly shocking. Penny’s best all round. I know that it’s choreographed that way but the juxtaposition between the hair-dos and the threads showed up the total falseness. As for yer man in the dress.. polyester, no question, on the cummerbund.. needs to have a word.. someone is stroking..
em.. didnt they say no folding chairs, no umbrellas? pic one has both… smh
Irish soldiers in retreat after one night in the park.
” Permission to go home for mam’s Sunday roast and a cuddle, sir “
Just like the British in Helmand .. ha ha..
And South Armagh.
Love the camouflage fatigue’s off set by high visibility vests
no one’s a saint said some priest on RTE. Now that’s some rationale for paedophiles..
Another said time to move on from the abuse agenda, people are sick of it. Like fupp off. They’d sicken your sh*te listening to um.
This is outrageous, name the bastards. This is the old Ireland rearing it’s ugly head and should NOT go unchallenged…
Is that Marian Finucane in the third picture? I thought his Holiness had already been to the #Marian shrine…
Good luck to them all. Not a practicing RC, or fan, but I hope the event is a big success and everyone is safe and comes away with some action items to improve things.
At least the place won’t be left like a tent-city tip by the millennials and cargo-bike/yurt yuppies at Electric Picnic, Ted.
Tell ya one thing, pope aside, we are truly BLESSED to have the wonderful amenity that is the Phoenix Park.
Hope it doesn’t get too wet for the faithful flock.
I doubt even the oldest one there will be complaining about not having a tent to keep them dry …
Could not have combining this event with Electric Picnic and shared the tents?
The Electric Ecumenical Matter Picnic.
Would bring that Educate Together/Cargo Bike Hell and Alive-Reading “Shure, We Knew Nuthin'” Heaven-Hopers together in a true spirit of damp patchness.
Loving the aerial shots, half empty. I’ve got 12 tickets for the red section if anybody wants them…
130k the Gardai are reporting. That tells quite the tale. Let’s see how they spin that one out.
Some lad at the end of the mass saying “over 500,000 here today” in a speech to the pope, the church mad for high numbers. Facts are not welcome on that corrupt boys club.
Get em baptized, get em breeding and get em passing that collection plate around.
Thankfully it pissed down on them. A field full to the brim of hypocrites. Not your mam tho, she is lovely.
Shur’ that’s an All Ireland and a Springsteen RDS gig
It that
So WTF was all the fussing with traffic management, army lads, snipers, road maps n’ shutting motorway exits down
20 mill ….
So say 10 mill per day
To crowd manage less than 150 thousand
Here
I’m in the wrong game altogether
RTE saying 150 to 300k so somewhere in the middle
Another embarrassingly small crowd. Will the rain, or traffic delays be blamed?
Empty streets, empty seats, empty words.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dlh_SpvW4AIFp4k.jpg
That wind is kicking up nicely, would be a shame to see that giant cross fall over. Symbolic yes but could hurt people so let’s not hope that happens.
Shame on you. You ought to ask for forgiveness. Even though it’s a meaningless gesture.
Is that Justin in the crowd? I hope he says a prayer for us all ;)
Of course I did. Wishing ye all the very best.
Why nothing on #Stand4Truth Broadsheet?
Woops some premature exhortation from me there, soz.
They merged it with the Tuam item. O Gorman speaking out the 2 sides of his mouth isn’t anything we haven’t seen before
Oh look at you, typing in the internet, I bet you have issues with breast feeding in public too yeah?
Why would I have an issue with breastfeeding,? We didn’t all have silver spoons like you
The only thing in the Phoenix Park morgue today will be the power and influence of the catholich church. I’m sure when this was being organised, it was seen as a galvanising event. A strong show of support, a resurgence of the faith and glowing reports of how much everyone loves cuddly wuddly and ever so ‘umble Pope Francis. Instead it got embarrassingly small crowds, mealy mouthed words of looking for forgiveness that mean nothing when the reality is that Francis is as corrupt and evil as the rest of them https://t.co/4QL2G2q3gs
Too right.. brilliant to see ..
Begging for forgiveness while ignoring the crimes stemming directly from the Vatican, some by his own hands as it’s transpiring. The RCC is in Ireland is a busted flush.
No begging just empty words
Empty, corrupt, contemptible, ignoble and sordid. But that ms what he did all weekend. But the country has turned a corner. The vast majority of the people of this Isla d see him and what he actually represents for what it really is.
There’s still a few Justins and Topseys and Ionas and Quinns left who’ll always defend the indefensible. But they’re such a minority now they’re irrelevant.
Catholic Ireland is dead and gone. You want a grave? Visit Tuam.
Ah c’mon lads
Let them have their day out
It’s none of my business anyway
And since we’re all about equality, freedom of speech, and tolerance,
Well I am anyway
Lay’ve ’em at it
No need to wish anyone there harm or bring the crap weather down on them
C’mon grow up
No. Each and everyone of them is giving support to the rape and cover up of the rape and murder of children. That’s their choice, but I’ll be dammed before I wish them anything but bad cess
Are you an Irish taxpayer? If so, are you a hypocrite for continuing to do so when it became clear the use of Shannon added and abetted the United States in it’s wars in the middle East which murdered and displaced millions?
Are you a hypocrite?
No where clear close to the half a million that they said would turn out.. Quite comforting to know that there aren’t that many idiots in this country
I think 150k
Official: 120k max
Looking at the crowd again I think it’s definitely less than 100k.. possibility 95/90k
The rationale if you can call it that of the mealy-mouthed onanistic sycophants licking each other’s holes on this site to belittle their fellow countrymen and their simple faith …
They are not my country men. They have turned their back on Eireann. They collude in supporting a foreign malign state. Fup them. I’m after them.
Okay lovey,we got your virtue-signalling first time round and now you’re just droning on like the nutter at the back of the bus.
Your intolerance of other people’s right to worship with the Pope without being insulted by you is clear for everyone to see.
Bold words from internet warriors normally mean running away at the first sign of trouble in real life.
I reckon you’re carrying a few secrets yourself – if you know what I mean, squire.
Nudge nudge, wink wink say no more.
Helmand.. there you go old bean.. keep repeating every time you become overwhelmed. It’s not easy when you decide to be a silly pants only to out silly pantsed by a better silly pants.. ha ha
+1
And I’ll come back to you later
If BS is the home of compassion, get me to the church fast…
Less than 130,000 people turned up for something the church wanted 500,000 for. They presumed Ireland was still under their influence.
I am immensely happy that only a third, a lot of whom flew in from other countries to attend turned up.
Hopefully this is the last time the head of this disgusting corrupt organisation is invited to this country, and hopefully soon the government will once and for all remove them selves from the influence of the church and start making arrests and properly investigating the abuse cover ups, not with “commissions of investigation” but with actual criminal investigation with search warrants issued and arrests made.
Yes. Thank you.
Very well said.
Well its now all over
We need to know exactly what varadkar talked about and what he said or did not say in private to the pope
Did he demand the pope make paedophile priests answer for their sins?
Did he demand the church pay up the billions it owes for the refinement of children the slave status of women in the laundries the sexual and physical abuse of children in their care?
Or was this all a missed opportunity to put right the horrendous crimes of the past and bring justice to our people whom were wronged by the church of Rome
Very poor turnout. RTE are spinning like mad as if we can’t see how small the crowd is.
RTE saying ‘thousands’ and refusing to put a fugure on it. Embarrassed at devoting so much time to a minority interest?
They give coverage to rugby so no embarrassment
Wheredy Pilgrims
130k?? If those overhead pics are straight of the event in full swing I’d say that’s a Croker’s worth at best (and half them either from outside the demesne or the dragged-along poor children to boost the ego like or who knows what reasons)
Sure doesn’t the place smell nice.
What with all the potpourri !
.
.
.
.
I’ll get me vestments!
If it really was 130k that’s fewer than the C of I population in the 26.
Maybe write a song about it. You could call it NEVER SAW YOU
Glad that’s all over now.
May this be the last occasion we make such a song and dance about any religious figure visiting this country.
Make it so number one.
Miscavige would be a bit of craic.
I listened to some of it on the car radio. Celestial singing; sonorous Latin; words of comfort, hope and joy… So soothing, you want to succumb. Ar nAthair ata ar neamh. It really is the opium of the people. Took the pain out of going to Powercity.
Yeah?
Wha’ d’ya get
Any bargains
I didn’t look, Frilly. In and out like a bat out of hell, with some nickel-plated cable. Francis was on every flatscreen in the place.
It was beautiful- beautiful music – wonderful singing – you really need to get over the desperate need to appear above it and embrace it for what it is- the church may be ugly but people and faith can be rewarding- stop trying so hard to be “cool”, it’s unbecoming
Ah wee off, why don’t you.
You’re so cool
Clearly not as Cool™ as you though, right?
This looks like a complete disaster from a numbers perspective.
Now really glad I ordered those 260,000 tickets (Garda and RTE estimate) in the name of Sinead O’Connor and never used them.
“Mass turnout” redefined.
