Forgetting Our Irish

at

Did you stay up?

A non-intrusive hug to, clockwise from top left: Kevin Higgins, Johnny Keenan, celebrity accountant Vanessa Foran, Olga Cronin, Dermot Bohan, ‘Preposterous‘ and Bernard Purcell, our panel on last night’s Broadsheet on the Telly.

The show, returning after a two-week absence, can be viewed in its entirety above.

Bernard, editor of the London-based Irish World newspaper, shared his thoughts on last Friday’s Late Late Show, broadcast from the UK capital for the first time since 1967.

Bernard – with Dagenham, Essex-born Vanessa in vocal support – gently tackled the evening’s various shortcomings both inside and outside the event’s Westminster venue.

Kevin, a lawyer advising the Tuam Home Survivors’ Network, discussed the newly-released Clann Project report and revealed news of a meeting with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and representatives of the network this Monday. Johnny renewed his call for young people to engage with the Mother and Baby home protests.

Olga, arriving late from a ‘shift in town’, briefly discussed reaction to the Disclosures Tribunal report and promised a full examination next week.

Dermot, meanwhile, showed off a new web cam and the multi-screen Broadsheet on the Telly ‘mission control’ he has rigged up in his otherwise normal, suburban bedroom. Nifty!

Some swearing.

Sorry.

Bernard Purcell was great! His description of his multi-cultural neighbours made me miss London.

Vanessa, you mentioned a couple of times that RTE didn’t know their audience for the London Late Late. Did they think audience was the older Kilburn crowd, instead of the younger passing-through crew Bernard said turned up?
