Breaking Up The Band

at

The Strypes

This morning.

Joe Clarke writes:

After 2 Top 20 UK albums (including a No. 1 album in Ireland) 3 sold out Japanese Tours and killer headline shows everywhere, The Strypes are announcing the break up of the band effective immediately.

Cavan’s Pete O’Hanlon on bass, Evan Walsh on drums, Josh McClorey on guitar and Ross Farelly on vocals exploded into the world in 2010 with an appearance on the Late Late Toy Show but it was their 2012 debut Ep ‘Young Gifted and Blue’ on Reckless Records that was the key to their huge international success.

…In the short term Pete and Ev have signed up with J&L Associates, an acting agency in London, Josh is working on a solo album and Ross is pursuing other musical outlets.

    That’s a shame –
there was nothing terribly original about them imo but they chose all of the right bands to be influenced by.

Them pesky kids! Did they breathe too loudly for you?

I find a well timed bash with a walking stick does the trick very nicely.

      I agree!
Jitterbugging around with their floppy hair and tight pants.
No good will come of it, it’s the Devil’s music!!

Top 20 means nothing in terms of sales. Their last dublin gig was in the sugar club ffs. That retro crap might have it’s niche market in Japan

Just to play devil’s advocate – I always found the whole ’60s schtick a wee bit derivative, also. But geez, cut them some slack, they were about 13 when they started; not everyone has to reinvent the wheel musically, they played some good rock n’ roll songs.

Hmmmm, I wonder what Tom finds sincere. Should we tell him it’s all an act? Dare I say, a Show Business?

THE STRYPES! THEY’RE A BAND! PEOPLE LIKED THEM: YOUNG AND GIFTED, IF A BIT DERIVATIVE. WOULD YOU LIKE ANOTHER WERTHER’S ORIGINAL, DEAR?

After The demise of the Hot Sprockets 2 weeks ago, it’s a bad news….

Apparently the guitarist is going solo, that might be interesting…

Now I’m singing Good Intentions by Toad the Wet Sprocket.
Finger on the pulse of modrin music as always.

They were a great young band belting out a raw sixties sound that there was/is clearly still a fan base for. I remember hearing that most or all of the band left school early, after the Junior Cert, to pursue their music. Kind of sad about that, but I guess they can pick up the educational baton again anytime.

      +1

And they’ve a few bob in the bank, and a mortgage paid off at a young age.
Nice restart for sure… good luck to them

I liked them. They made me smile as I remembered my Mod days back at school in the 80’s. They dress like I did too which is a relief as most thought I looked like a knob but I knew I looked cool as fupp.
