What’s to say? Parliaments are on holidays. It’s all happening in the background. The British Taoiseach is letting the realisation of a No Deal Sasamach sink in, hoping it will change minds before the vote.

Maith an Buachaill Vlad! On the front cover of the “British” Independent, owned by the needy son of the Russian oligarch Alex Lebedev. Not that the Independent would give you this gory detail, but the new nuclear missile can travel from Russia to London in 6 minutes. Yielding 5 megatons, an airblast over Westminster would wipe out all life in a radius to Wimbledon, Kingston, Croydon, Ilford,Walthamstow, Haringey, Wembley.

they also don’t detail the factors driving this arms race -a fuller context would include the biggest build-up since the Cold War of US-led western forces aggressively positioned around Russia’s borders; that last October, the US pulled out of a 30-year-old arms control treaty with Russia

Fair play to HRH Leo for giving three of the four Irish broadsheets a front-page headline today, it’s wonderful that our noble band of independent political journalists can still treat Leo at arms length even though he gives them such nuggets during a slow domestic news week. And elsewhere, fair play to Charlie Flanagan for finding a new way to spend €1.7 million of our money (and to present it like he’s doing us a favour).

Dastardly scammers are using a fake endorsement from loss-making RTE’s €299,000 a year Miriam O’Callaghan to flog skin cream. So says the Times Ireland today. Separately altogether, to book Miriam O’Callaghan or to talk about your event requirements, do contact Miriam’s agent, Carol and Associates.

Sadly, it’s not possible to tell from the abbreviated filed accounts for Miriam’s Baby Blue Productions Limited how much she generates in income outside RTE.

How is that possibly any business of yours?

Aside from us being required to fund loss-making RTE if we possess a TV and therefore having an interest in its fat cat presenters costs, there are two issues here. One is, Miriam is a presenter and is required by RTE’s very own producer guidelines to be impartial, extracurricular income can affect impartiality. Secondly, Miriam’s extracurricular income is likely to be dependent on her RTE profile, so it’s of interest to us all, especially when RTE is making huge losses and yet can afford to pay her €299,000 a year (in 2016).

” Miriam is a presenter and is required by RTE’s very own producer guidelines to be impartial, extracurricular income can affect impartiality.”

Yet, you never mention the series producer or editor of her shows. They are just as responsible for impartiality as she is, if not more so.

          No, no it’s not.

Do you have any awareness of annual spend, outgoings and turnover that a TV station incurs?
I’ve yet to see someone moan about the low advertising rates or the inflated aquisition costs or the union related costs that make local programme making so expensive. It’s always just petty jealousy about someone getting paid more than the whinger.

PS Do you intentionally write these posts like Donald Trump tweets?

I see John Paul Phelan is having a ball on his honeymoon. What better way to consummate the marriage than to issue a press release about what ‘should’ be done about political facebook ads.

“Look honey, look at how powerful I am, look at the god you have married. How I can dictate the lives of the little people. Yes, it does too compensate for shortcomings in other areas.”
