[Paeder Toibin] confirmed the name, which means unity and consent, at an event in Belfast.
Aontú is expected to contest local elections both sides of the border in May.

I thought Peadar was going for something that was more than just a political party, nationalist, and all-island in nature.
Would something like ’32-County Sovereignty Movement’ not have worked?
Aon focal, dhá focal, tú focal eile, and I not know no focal at all
Bualadh bos for that headline…
Everyone together ! Well as long as your pro life
Better than renua though
Heading for the same political dustbin, of course.
Bless his heart for trying though.
Aontú Brutus!
Class!
In truth though, it was SF which deserted Peadar not the other way around.
He’ll probably have 3-5 TDs at the next election, Carole Nolan would be one and at least one of the 5-6 councillors should take a seat handily.
He’ll probably get 20+ councillors and leapfrog the Greens.
I wonder might he stand a candidate in West/North for Europe? He could well undermine Matt Carthy. He might also threaten Liadh in Munster.
Fair play to him. Unfortunately as a pro-choicer his wouldn’t be the party for me.
@Bodger why didn’t you include their “Are you in favour of a United Ireland?” poll;?
54% Yes; 21% No; 25% dunno
Does he a very large head?
I find it rather ironic that a party that was set up because the founder wants to deny women control over their own bodies tries to call his party ‘consent’.
