      +1.
The shrubbery/tree lined lined entrance to the park I walk in is festooned with dog poo bags hanging from the branches. They’re tossed into the trees & shrubs by dog walkers. Disgusting stuff.

Foul – see it all the time on Bull Island. Wtf is the point of going half-way and picking up your dog sh*t, only to leave it on the beach in a plastic bag that will take hundreds of years to degrade??

Because dog owners are mostly idiots and don’t care about the environment or the natural world. They walk around with in inbred abomination on the lead for Christ sake. They have to be seen to pick up the dog eggs, but there’s no way they are going to keep turds in their pocket for an extended period of time until they see a bin. So when no ones looking. Throw the bag aside. Zero risk of getting caught. People shouldn’t have dogs in the first place.

        Spot on.
I saw a dog-owner at the weekend, bag in hand, waiting for her mutt to poop in the centre of a park tarmac path, with everyone walking and jogging around her, despite there being long grass and meadow all around. The same park sees full poo bags stuffed into wire mesh fences and underneath parked cars. Bizarre antics. Some folk have completely replaced human interaction and respect for others with a four-legged dependent animal – which is even more bizarre.

in fairness, the dog decides where to poop. at least she was picking it up (and hopefully disposing of it). Ours is trained to poop on grass but sometimes for reason’s best known to himself he goes on the path – it’s almost like he’s a small-brained idiot with no common sense.

Good jaysus. If the dog decides where to defecate, be that a path, kids playground, the granny’s begonias or a picnic table – then what’s the point of a leash and any training or persuasion from the ‘master’ owner?

How shocking, where does it all end? Next you’ll be telling us that dogs don’t respect trans rights!

Some idiot on the radio said that owners that don’t pick up the poo are “embarrassing the dogs”…..

i like to bag my own poo and leave it hanging on the neighbour’s hedge. or, when I’m feeling reckless, in the basket of a parked bicycle. only once did I pop it into the ice cream freezer in centra.

There seems to be a lot more dog ownership these days and one dog per family/person is not enough it seems.
As a nation we are poor at civic responsibility and this is true for every class in society.
People are gone daft about dogs, almost humanising them.

    1. Conski

no, we do humanise them. Its easy to care about dogs, and people substitute them in for holes in their lives

Is making grand sweeping statements tailor-made to highlight your idiocy something of a habit for you? A fun activity to while away the lonely days?

    2. Ian-O

We actually have a shared evolution with dogs so we actually should have them as they have been bred to work/live alongside us.

I carry my poop bag for my non inbred (mongrel from the pound) dog. Yes, its not pleasant, but believe it or not, dog owners are also path and road users and owning a dog doesn’t inure me to how foul dog dirt is. I hate it, most dog owners hate it but the idea that all dog owners engage in what you describe above is just silly. I have seen people do it alright, but really not that many at all.

      1. millie st murderlark

Agreed. My mother is a fan of chasing dog owners who don’t pick up after their dogs and shaming them into picking it up. She carries the biodegradable poo bags in her bag at all times just in case. As a dog owner I think it might be her biggest peeve.

      2. Spaghetti Hoop

As you say, dog owners use the path and roads,so would ye not make more an effort to steer the bowel-churning hound in the direction of grass and scrub – where well-heeled humans are less likely to tread? Or are you captivated as Liam is (above) about the rights of dogs to defecate where they wish? #animals4choice?

Better get used to it Mel. There’s a growing number of “kept” spouses swanning around in PCP Range Rovers with their 4 kids and 2 inbred dalmatians or similar ZEE-PURE BRED!!!! type dogs.

          1. postmanpat

So why do you even care that I think stupid dog owners are idiots. I like cats, they are not a barking nuisance to neighbors and they bury their own shit. If you want to see real knuckle draggers you should queue up outside the mobile pet clinic some evening and listen to the dog owners talking abut getting their boxer (or whatever) together sometime to make puppies and split the profits. Jesus, it was a singles get together for pet lovers. I was only there to get a injured stray cat looked at and had to listen to a hours of dopes talking about their dogs while pulling leads and trying to keep the things from fighting each other. Not one of them were fit to look after an animal . They could barely look after themselves by the look and sounds of them. If you think most dog owners are responsible then you must live a sheltered life , because every week there are queues 2 hours long outside these pay-what -you-can mobile clinics , yet people are getting together to breed more animals? meanwhile dogs are getting put down in the ISPCA by the hundreds? It all starts with the consumer and I don’t think most of these people should have dogs. Or at least make the dog license €1000 to weed out the doley entitled riff raff.

          2. millie st murderlark

I think it might be because you’re blindly making assumptions about people based on what kind of animal they choose to own.

I don’t disagree that there are some people who absolutely should not have pets, never mind being let out of the house on their own, but I think you’re maybe taking it a bit far?? Do you know every dog owner in Ireland? Possibly.

  7. Mel

I wonder are there any statistics available for the number of dog licences issued? One would have to assume that the number has increased greatly in recent years. There seems to be very little enforcement in any case. I believe there are just a few dog wardens for the entire Dublin area for example.
It might be an idea to outsource this to private companies in the same way parking/clamping was.
