The People’s Pool

Markievicz Pool, Townsend Street, Dublin and the College Gate apartments above are facing demolition to make way for a transport “hub” next to Tara Street station for the Metrolink rail line.

Pool users and apartment residents have urged the government to consider alternative sites for construction of the underground station, including the nearby demolished Apollo House on Tara Street.

Jude Murphy writes:

The public Markievicz leisure centre, managed by the Dublin City Council, is the only available in Dublin City Centre with a 25 metre swimming pool. Thousands use this public pool and gym. Local children learn to swim there.

On top, up to 150 people could lose their homes because the apartments above the pool will also be demolished with the current project.

There is already a housing crisis in the city. €1 million was just spent refurbishing the much used facility and now the government wants to demolish it.

But if the don’t build the station then is that not an attempt by Blue Shirts to restrict public transport from North Dublin working class communities and keep the Dart for themselves.

      It’s a false flag Dav!!!!
