Your Top 10 only goes to 9, and you have two No. 2

Also Lahinch or Lehinch? You’ll never go to heaven.

    1. Janet, I ate my avatar

yes but we are on the dart,
personally I’d rather the drunk hoard of teenage fools go west, west

  2. The Lorax

Come to Ireland & enjoy raw sewerage supplied by Irish Water and Fine Gael spewing onto our beautiful shores!

    1. Bern

Whatever about Fine Gael, Irish water don’t supply sewage you clot. They are engineers trying to fix the problem

        Wastewater
Irish Water has sole responsibility for the cleaning and maintenance of the public sewer network. We also operate a network of wastewater treatment plants across Ireland. water.ie

    whaaat?
sounds like tripadvisor did some very quick “research” & wrote up whatever the google thingy came up with

InchYdony is nice fair enough but for me it’s Dollar Bay on the Hook peninsula

        Thanks pal. Autocorrect got me.

I’ve spent a few holidays down there. West cork is a glorious part of the world.

I don’t think they were in Portmarnock on a sunny day, maybe the score was based on burger vans and underage drinking in which case it is indeed a top 10. Nice out of season for a walk or a run for sure.

No coumeenoole, keem bay or silver strand?

      1. Daisy Chainsaw

You can’t beat Curracloe/Culleton’s Gap, but if you’re looking for somewhere a little less busy and packed, Dollar Bay is lovely,

          are you from wexford, daisy?

i heard the locals pronounce “dollar” as “dolore”. can you kindly confirm?

  5. Spaghetti Hoop

The list is based on seasonal visitors who then posted on Trip Advisor to share their positive experience. Hardly scientific.

Its a lovely beach! Ah the memories. It used to have the best dunes that went on forever, sadly not anymore. Thanks Golf! I’ve only seen some dodgy folk there on a couple of days in the height of summer. Even then, nothing too bad happens.

Ah Portmarnock beach, the location of many a ride I had in the dunes back in the day (well, twice). Good times

    1. Brother Barnabas

i was running there recently and whimsically decided to go through the dunes.

woooah, what a sight that was before me. i almost didn’t stay to watch.

      1. missred

How does one whimsically go through dunes? I’m picturing a very skippy, frolicky BB gamboling through the sand. You can claim you’re practicing interpretive dance if you’re caught peeping

        1. Brother Barnabas

          no, no, back up there

i *whimsically decided*. there’s nothing whimsical about my movement – it’s very much an athletic gallop. sometimes, i even turn myself on with my all-round hotness.

          1. missred

A whimsical decision eh… just a bitta casual perving then. As opposed to the calculated, deliberate sort.

I’ll bet you did some backing up of your own while you were there

    2. scottser

as a youngfleh growing up in that neck of the woods, we used to go spotting couples riding in the dunes. we called it ‘elbow hunting’.

      1. missred

I also cannot confirm or deny the keeping on of my black boots in flagrante deep in the dunes. Nope, no comment to make on that!

Five minutes of Google/Google Earth “research” and hey presto! A report which gives Tripadvisor a veneer of respectability when all they really do is fleece hotels and drive up hotel prices through their booking service (remember, you’ll always get the cheapest price by calling the hotel themselves and telling them you’ve seen such-a-such price elsewhere).

So the most visited county has the “best” (ie most voted for) beaches. What a surprise. The fact that Portmarnock is even on there makes it laughable.

The best beaches in Ireland are in Donegal- Marble Hill beach near Dunfanaghy and the silver strand near Bundoran to name just two.

  10. Iwerzon

I’m delighted Silver Strand, Murder Hole beach and other absolute gems in Donegal didn’t make the list for fear of being tortured by coach trips and Jackeens on their holliers.
