Valley Of The Crolly Dolls

Anyone remember Crolly dolls?

Anne O’Leary is exhibiting a selection of the Donegal-made dolls in a variety of locations around Dublin and Kildare including the above photographed in the Cregan Library in DCU in Drumcondra (formerly St Patrick’s College), north Dublin as part of National Heritage Week.

There are also Crolly dolls – which were in production from 1939 to 1979 – currently on show in Castletown House, Celbridge, County Kildare; in Bloomfield Shopping Centre in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin; and in St Martin’s Apostolate in Parnell Square West, Dublin 1.

Truly a toy story for the ages.

Hated them awful things, I took a razor to the face of the one I was allowed to play with, I had another that was just for show because she had a fancy faux sheepskin jacket. Sindy was my doll of preference.
