The impressive 2017 debut of LA-based Irish director Paul Horan. To  wit:

In a small Irish town where secrets are rare, a local man goes to church to confess his.

RF, the film was Paul Horan’s debut as a director in 2017. His second film ‘Cuddles’ was released this summer.

    That hit hard!
My own daughter is being raised by another man, albeit in vastly different circumstances.
I too have secrets, but more about and against the mother than the step father. And I cannot share them with her, as she has only one mother, who she loves, and I cannot take that away from her.
I am already the villain: best I live that role rather than take away her love for her mother. That should be inviolable!
    This hit me hard!

I’ve seen these situations in friendship circles and close to home. Whatever happened, whatever was said, whatever was done…everyone deserves a second chance at being sound, good, humble, responsible, being a parent, being reasonable, being sorry – all of that. We’re all human. You don’t sound like a villain!

” We’re all human” – There is one person in this world I about whom might dispute that statement, but my daughter would hate me forever if I did… :-)
The problem is not second chances. The problem is that first chances are loaded with land mines and booby traps you did not know even existed and were not warned about.
They should issue a health warning on relationships…

That’s an awful situation SB. The very worst kind. I seriously hope things work out for the best for you and your daughter. x

No two situations, relationships or circumstances are the same.
          Life is complicated.
You have to take the good with the bad, usually.

          I’m raising another man’s daughter.
She just recently met her biological father.
In her eyes, I’m still dad and that’s enough for me as long as she is happy.

I do understand what you mean by booby traps and minefields.
          That’s a different story however.

          Everyone deserves a second chance.
I know I’m very gratetful to have been given mine.

iirc you’ve been through the family court system and it’s totally unfair premise.
As a father, you have literally no defence to false allegations unless you can afford
          a very very expensive barrister.
A lot of coaching by solictors goes on before the case and all the same bs is usually employed to influence the judges.

When they poison the well, unfortunately it can be passed on to the children. It’s gross and unfair, but like all things here, the system is broken, but it was designed to be that way.

Best of luck for the future and try not be the one to poison the well, no matter how much you are tempted.

            Thanks, italia’90!

Not the Irish family court system, but the US one, where a known tactic is for one parent to make false but unproveable accusations of horrendous nature against the other. Cue years of investigation and eventual exoneration, but it is the accusations that endure in the minds of others. Smoke ~ fire, and so on.

Not poisoning the well is why I am not telling my daughter my side of things. I want to be able to talk to her in later life and say that I acted as honourably as I knew how.

      Your comment is awaiting moderation.
Some possible reasons for this are:

I’ve just changed my username so the system doesn’t recognise me.
The nice moderator has fixed this for me.
Would it kill me to say thanks?

None of the above- now BS lads it is time you got your house in order- your increased strike rate is not because of sock puppets.

I’m channeling Anita Roddick here but at what what point did her direct openness became a bad businesses template?
