Eamonn Dowd & The Racketeers – Songs From The Fever Ship
Don’t you love it when a plan comes together?
A veteran of the Irish music scene, Eamonn Dowd cut his teeth in bands like The Swinging Swine and Captain Hex.
Now based in Gothenburg, Sweden, Dowd has collaborated with Horslips drummer and all-round renaissance man Eamon Carr for his next album due on Claddagh Records in November.
Songs From The Fever Ship features lyrics by Carr telling the story of “the wine geese” emigres – the wild geese who fled Ireland and set up vineyards and chateaux in Bordeaux, France.
This video shot by journalist and author John Fleming gives a taste of things to come.
Nick says: I’ll drink to that.
Okay, I have decided to be controversial.
Eamon Dowd is an artist I have never liked. I find him condescending and arrogant, dismissive of anyone he sees as inferior to his own perceived brilliance (you can actually see that in parts of this trailer).
Yes, I have met him. Yes I have done work for him. No, he is not on my speed dial, nor, I imagine, am I on his. In fact, he likely does not even recall our encounters.
That being said, I would be very interested in anything a collaboration with Eamonn Carr brings about. That man was always a gentleman.
Really looking forward to this. Two brilliant talents.
Some of the best nights of my life at Walter’s in Dun Laoghaire with Polly, and the Swinging Swine on stage.
