Enough of that ridiculous WAG story. Is it always silly season in the Mail.

1h59 ” no human is limited” beautiful man, beautiful performance, what an inspiration

Not sure why they didn’t just have a route downhill & and a fan behind his back.He was given every advantage and permitted…
– a laser-guided route to maintain the perfect pace around a spectator-lined course chosen in Vienna’s Prater Park for its favorable gradients;
– a troop of 41 world-class pacesetters, rotating in groups and in the perfect wind-reducing formation;
– a start time carefully chosen and in conditions deemed most favorable by meteorological experts;
– energy gels handed to Kipchoge from a bike to avoid any need to break stride;
– a specially-designed pair of Nike shoes believed to be able to provide a 4-5 percent improvement for runners.
V
Well of that’s the case
Why the hell aren’t the rest of us doing it
Huh?
Away ou’ that Nick
It’s maximising performance
And fair play to the lad
They had a race strategy and they stuck to it
Janet, I ate my avatar
exactly, it’s about optimising to reach the peak of potential,
sounds like you wouldn’t be happy unless it was uphill in hiking boots :),
formula 1 cars don’t do Safari,
it’s not official, it’s about a man working for years to make history,
he is a study in determination, humility and hard work,
not a bad icon in today’s world
Janet, I ate my avatar
we all try improve our running through training, nutrition, faster racing buddies (pacers), hydration, clothes that don’t chaff, he had the best nothing to be begrudging about I’d say,
two years ago he attempted this with two other runners who had similar potential, yet here he is today, the one who saw it through
Nick
and if somebody of equal ability passed you in marathon while surrounded by 6 pace setters/wind breakers you would think fair play.
Janet, I ate my avatar
this record wasn’t made in a offical Marathon and impacted no one else’s race,
I often tuck in behind a good pacer, large lad if possible when I’m running, carries me along and I can enjoy the view, win win,
if I want to be where anyone passing me is I’d think ” I need to work harder “.
Janet, I ate my avatar
would it be ok if I call you Nick the negative from now on ;)
Nick
Of course you can.
Janet, I ate my Avatar
see you’re a gent, I don’t believe what they say about you

“large lad if possible” eh..well if that’s what it takes I suppose.
Janet, I ate my avatar
well a wee fella isn’t going to be much of a wind barrier, I’m a tallish lady
Paulus
em..I was going with Mrs Doyle’s definition of lad here.
Janet, I ate my avatar
sorry I’m so pure of thought you see ;)
Tea And Brexits
If someone *passed me* with six pacers in a marathon I’d be recommending that runner should be thinking about getting six new pacers.
Go for a run Nick.
I’m doing the Dublin City Marathon in two weeks; not a racer me; but this performance by Mr C is very inspiring.
Janet, I ate my avatar
fair play and good luck, smash it !
Tea And Brexits
Good man Nick, displaying those honed Grouch to 5K chops to advantage.

“we’ll see how hard the border is when bombs start going off in Limerick”
lovely
some old queen
I was wondering about that- why Limerick?
Still, they are getting jumpy for sure- alignment with the Irish economy etc- NI is already aligned with the Irish economy- it is the proposed Brexit divergence which would cause the harm. I wonder how many of these ‘community activists’ are funded by peace and rec or by the EU? Or are they just afraid that a sea border would disrupt their drug trades?
NI remaining part of the CU would see an influx of tech workers like never before- but sure then- they’d have a full time job running around East Belfast trying to decide if these new foreigners are ‘them’ or ‘us’.
GiggidyGoo
DUP/UVF and DUP/UDA. As distinct from SF/IRA
Have to call it as it is.
some old queen
There was never any doubt about the connection between SF and IRA- DUP on the other hand, always denied their associations.
shayna
To be fair, SOQ – that’s not strictly true. Paisley and Robinson appeared on-camera wearing berets of the Red Hand Commando – spoke at rallies, etc. I’m with you on the “Why Limerick?” thing?
some old queen
True but there was always a bit of a disassociation between the two- at least by inference- Paisley- man of the cloth etc.
As for Limerick- maybe they just don’t like Pennys clothes? Could explain how Primark in Royal Avenue caught fire of course.
GiggidyGoo
Apart $120,000 arms tourist to Switzerland (Emma Little’s daddy?) or Willie Frazier’s gun-running. Both DUP/UVF DUP/UDA.
No doubt about the connection. And should be always said in the same breath.

Foster condemns terrorism after photo emerges of former charity head with UDA men
SF wouldn’t do that? They are more upfront I think.
GiggidyGoo
The current leadership of SF also condemns terrorism.
Sauce for the goose and all that.
Rob_G
Bullcaca – the current leadership of SF turn up at commemorations of dead terrorists all the time, and use convicted child-murderers on the canvass in the north – hardly abjuring terrorism.
Man On Fire
bulcaca, no they don’t.
GiggidyGoo
Good man Rob. Except they, like the DUP, say also they condemn terrorism. Wakey wakey
Rob_G
They condemn terrorism… while also glorifying dead terrorists. Obviously, anyone with an ounce of sense can see through this hypocrisy, but I can see how someone such as yourself might be taken in by it.

I see the media seems to be ignoring ongoing events in Ecuador. After the government recently announced severe IMF austerity measures there has been protests across the country. The indigenous community arrived en masse to the capital to protest and are being brutally suppressed by the authorities, a 3pm military curfew imposed. If this were happening in Hong Kong or Venezuela, it would be headline news! A thread giving some context: https://mobile.twitter.com/BenjaminNorton/status/1183137019431706626
Cast Iron and Politically Bulletproof (‘We achieved what we set out to achieve’) said our podium-picking Taoiseach back in 2017. Well, Big Swinging Michael.
Does he, or anyone else, think that the UK will cut loose in any way a part of the Union? Even with the likes of BoJo at the helm?
Now there is a ‘tunnel’
I wonder how many more new phrases, words, will be set loose on us over the next couple of weeks.
some old queen
If sticking the CU border in the Irish sea is going to guarantee Johnson’s election with a sizable majority you can bet your eye teeth he will do it. Brexit is driven by English nationalism after all- NI means nothing to them.
GiggidyGoo
If so, then Scotland and Wales also mean nothing to them?
some old queen
Probably not- protect The City of London at all costs.
GiggidyGoo
There’s more to the UNITED Kingdom than London. Any Prime Minister that attempts to jettison a part of it will get a sharp shock from the other parts.

80 percent of money in London though

Nice one Japan beating Scotland at the RWC – I know nothing about rugby, but somehow it may lift the spirits of a country currently being devastated by a “Super Typhoon”.
Steph Pinker
Aye, but the only downside to that is we meet NZ in the quarter-finals next week, instead of South Africa. It’ll certainly separate the men from the boys though.
some old queen
I am more Scotland as I have a thing for red heads- apart from Cavan- not going there again.

I’ve noticed the lack of eoin’s contributions over the past few days; maybe he’s had enough of the snide remarks, being abused, insulted and vilified by a few nasty obsessive compulsive stalkers who themselves have nothing intellectual to offer? It’s very sad when a ‘valuable contributor to the site’ [to quote a sneering Papi et al.] is bullied to the point whereby he/ she takes the decision to stop posting comments and contributions.
I always read eoin’s posts, in fact, I learned more about current important issues from his/ her posts than any other commenter. If so, all it proves is that eoin has taken the wise stance of staying away from such toxic vitriol and the sad, pathetic aspects of some individuals who have taken this comments section in to the sewer of their own minds and abysmal world within which they stagnate.

where art thou, eoin?

Maybe
GiggidyGoo
Likewise. Eoin always shines the torch into the darkness and mire that is corporate and political Ireland, that the headlines and front pages fail to give proper (or any) coverage of.
And you hit the nail on the head with the “ few nasty obsessive compulsive stalkers who themselves have nothing intellectual to offer”
Janet, I ate my avatar
Eoin did make some good points, if I may give my tuppance, I’d say it’s his delivery that wound people up and the volume of it, just a thought
Don Quiderbi
And the frequent inaccuracies and personalized slurs
Nice comments above about marathon guy, are you a runner?
Janet, I ate my avatar
gonna hold my hands up and say I only read some of Eoins comments, they were a little long for me to bother if I’m honest, so missed the slurs you mentioned,

All teed up to look like a Varadkar ‘success’. The hero rode into Cheshire and single-handled turned BoJo.
The facts are though that there is no deal. The proposed WA and proposed Backstop are now in the recycling bin. The EU and not the Boy Varadkar are the negotiators.
