Social Democrats launch a policy document called Honest Politics – Restoring trust in politics and public life’. aiming to “tackle corruption in Irish political and public life”.

Policy proposals include:

A commitment to establishing an Independent Anti-Corruption unit with significant wide-ranging detection and prosecution powers

The establishment of an Electoral Commission, the introduction of an Oireachtas Commission vetting procedure for all senior appointments to public bodies,

Reform of the Ministers and Secretaries Act to make senior public servants accountable for their actions,

And a commitment to poverty-proof all legislative, policy, and budgetary decisions.

Social Democrats co-leader Catherine Murphy said:

“Too often there is little if any accountability when wrongdoing is uncovered and that is why we believe that an Independent Anti-Corruption unit – with wide-ranging powers to investigate and prosecute is a necessary step which can not only help restore much-needed trust but also to put an end to the need for expensive and lengthy tribunals and commissions of investigation.”

Is there any party that will undertake to review the current gender recognition law? Id be very interested in supporting a party that puts sex based protections at the forefront of their policies.

      1. BS

Thats one of my points. The Gender recognition act confuses gender and sex in its wording. uses the word gender in relation to male and female. male and female are terms used to describe sex in general language not gender.

All very reasonable stuff as usual from the SocDems.

Its a bit of a shame the Greens are going to take all the middle class/young person vote that might otherwise have gone towards the SocDems. I’m not sure how they’ll achieve much growth with that political ‘lane’ now quite crowded.

I agree completely. They could have made a real difference but instead we are going to get the halfwits. Clueless arrogant idiots. Where did it go wrong for the SocDems ? They should be looking at 15 seats..

Do we not have an Independent Anti-Corruption unit already. It’s called the Ombudsman. Do we really need yet more quangos?
