But those fluffy covers are much better in windy conditions at reducing wind noise and give clearer audio.

I’d be willing to put money on it being a very directional, mini shotgun mic with that wind cover on it. Less directional mics need less of the body covered, somewhat counterintuitively.
I would agree, and it is probably powered. Been a while since I was in this field, but I really would like a look under that cover.
