Marty Mone – Truck And Roll
Fancy a road trip?
Then climb in to Marty Mone’s big red rig and take in the sights of the open road.
Imagine a cross between The Saw Doctors and Smokey And The Bandit (1977) and you’re nearly there.
The press blurb says:
“It’s a compelling summary of the ups-and-downs of a working-class touring musician, but also a look into the life of what happens in between — going to truck shows and exploring the countryside in his Scania R580.”
The journey in the video saw Marty – a native of Castleblayney, County Monaghan – burn 50,000 miles of rubber.
Nick says: Wheels of fortune.

I really enjoyed that. And it looks like they had a lot of fun doing it.
I have huge respect for truck drivers, particularly of the heavy artics and truck-trailers. I have worked with many in some very challenging environments, and learned a lot from them on how to surmount problems on the road (I did logistics).
To this day I still apply the hill passing rule (as I call it) when on stairs: Those going downhill yield to those coming uphill, particularly on hairpin bends. Reason: Gravity will help the truck going downhill to get going again, but if a truck coming uphill has to stop it takes a lot more energy to get going agin as you are fighting gravity. Lots of little sensible ‘rules’ like that.
That all being said, you cannot have a post like this and not reference these two:

I always play the last one for my sister every year on her birthday: 6th June. She hates me :)
