I am always a bit wary of these type of complaints as they’re often pushed by big time reactionary “Architectural Revival” types using them as a facade for an ulterior motive. That said, I don’t disagree that the building on the right looks the worse of the two here. That said: was it perceived differently at the time of construction? Do these people believe in any level of leeway for incorporating newer architectural idea and standards of beauty? Do older buildings such as this accurately represent ‘Irish’ architecture or simply that which was imported by Britain in the pre-independence days?
Gorgeous photo! I love Rob’s work so much. A book of these would be beautiful.
