Taking It Well

at

Oh.

This morning.

Baltimore, West Cork

Via The Glebe Gardens

It’s my son, Luka’s 7th birthday today. He made this note for the attention of the corona virus after we told him that he can’t have his friends around….we’re gonna spoil him rotten!

Happy birthday, Luka.

Mmf.

I presume ”the f-word” is ”fart”, no 7 year old should know the other f-word (flip).

My six year old has a colourful vocabulary, which she uses when she thinks I can’t hear.

      I take full responsibility.

The wife’s nephew is also up the wall. He’s supposed to be doing the leaving cert, which might well be postponed. He also got signed to a premier league of Ireland team and all their games are cancelled. And he’s a Liverpool fan so he might not get to see them crowned champions.
The nocraicvirus is an Fword for us all.

      Obviously this is totally hearsay
But a lad in the know
Says they’ll bring the leaving certs back after Easter and keep the rest off till September

And may set July rather than June for eyes down
I’m assuming my TYer won’t be returning till September

“The nocraicvirus is an Fword for us all.”

May I remind you that the Spanish Flu reportedly caused the deaths of 18 million people, in part because at that time people did not understand how easily it was transmitted, and media of the time, slightly distracted by a war, did not have the immediate reach current media does.

Spanish Flu reportedly infected at least 500 million people, and killed up to 18 million.

I would vastly prefer to lose a few points on my leaving, and miss a match or two, than watch 18 million people die in this day and age over something preventable.

A number of years back the NGOs predicted a major famine in sub-Saharan Africa. The world ignored them. Millions died. But they did not die on the doorsteps of the rich and powerful western world. That memory sticks in my craw, because we knew how to stop it then. We know how to stop this now. But then, as now, the question has come down to: Which do you prefer: the lives of people you do not know, or the economics of your billionaires?

I do not know any billionaires. I know, and knew, many of those who suffered then, since, and still. I am sorry for your wife’s nephew, but if we follow the protocols he will live, and his dreams can then start again. If we don’t and he dies, not only do his dreams die, but those of far too many around hi.
