Last week, with a healing €25 Golden Discs voucher on offer, I asked what is your favourite music video from the 1990s?
You answered in your tens.
But there could be only one winner.
Third place:
Buddy Holly by Weezer
IvanL writes:
it has to be Weezer’s Buddy Holly video …directed by Spike Jonze…Happy Days….Da Fonze…included on the Windows 95 CD-ROM …pure 90’s bliss!
Runner-up:
Wicked Game by Chris Isaak
Otis Blue writes:
The video for Wicked Game by Chris Isaak evokes many the memory of an Irish beach holiday in the ‘90s…
Winner:
Bachelorette by Bjork
Joe writes:
Nothing comes anywhere close to the true artistic supernova genius and the closest example of perfect unification of the form by Michel Gondry and Bjork in this classic…
As a lifelong fan of cinema, the wonderous Psychedelic empathy machine of the human condition that it is… I can remember vividly the first time I experienced listening and watching this video unfold before my eyes as it grabbed my attention, I seized up, frozen in position with utter wonder and amazement…
Thanks all.
Last week: Win Nick’s Quarantine Voucher

Congratulations @Joe! Worthy winner, and worthy runners up.
My personal preference was likely Chris Isaak, but that probably just shows my age ;) It is one of my Full Volume Favourites, which probably explains it :)
To all of you who share music, whether old or new, I just want to say thank you! I have learned more about life by learning more about the music people make, and most of that has been wonderful with a few bumps in the road along the way!
Do not stop, please!
Great choice Joe! Congrats!
God, what a weak, utterly dismal choice. Come on and give us something that isn’t for music snobs and tossers for a change.
A big durty fry-up is what you need… haha…
Afterwards, tell us your best music video and song combo..
It better be good…
:-J
Haha.. looks like someone has had a hard days night….
Thanks to everyone involved…
– Especially eh, Michel Gondry and Bjork obviously, seeing as they did all the heavy lifting.. but also Nick(always great taste) and of course Broadsheet – Reliable Earth News LTD for facilitating the entertainment..
I have to say…
I really liked this one as music videos are underrated and often ignored and I would have picked any of at least ten videos offered up by other folks as a good winner for the top three. In Bloom, G N’R, Mondays & Roses, Sabotage etc. – all great and personal favourites that are difficult not to watch as soon as you see them playing somewhere, even when halfway over… – I call it, passing The Kubrick test.
In particular the other two lads on the podium… Buddy Holly – Such a catchy kind of garage/punk-ish pop and a funny video. The first byte-sized version of an old school typical TV show episode as a music video.
– Also windoze hijacked it to try and be cooler than crApple marketing and they were, for the length of that song anyway but then you hit a blue screen every twenty seconds..
Wicked Game – Great song and voice and the video reminds me of a David Lynch movie mixed with a Terence Malik movie but produced and edited by Playboy and Janus Films with all the beautifully vulgar bits left on the cutting room floor… ahem.. anyway…
I’m not gonna lie, I’m glad “Citizen Jane : The Psychadelic Opera – In just over five minutes”, managed to get some rare love and attention. Hardly anyone ever even mentions it(apart from our friend above ironically) for the great that it is, although is it only as good as a music video and not as a seperate song? Idk..?..- I’m still not sure what’s really going on in it to be honest, it seems to just get more and more complicated and I’ve tried to figure it out about a hundred times… – Usually, after loads of beer or wine or a good herbal infusion tho to be fair.. (Again, like our 4am streetfighting person? above)
Anyway, go and watch it and all of Gondry’s videos and Bjorks songs working together or seperately, all good and great trip into another maze if youve never seen them before..
Hopefully you can find a houseless person or another charitable clever use for the voucher. Cheers!
NEVERMIND THE BOLLOX – BOOST YER IMMUNE SYSTEM WITH FRUIT N VEG ! ! !
Good man Joe, that’s a great acceptance speech :)
A noble and decent one.
Still, this is the ne plus ultra of acceptance speeches.
