Last night/this morning
A blockade of Headford Road, County Galway in protest over Garda checkpoints (top).

Just after 9am this morning Keith Finnegan spoke to local councillor James Charity (above) who was sent a video (top) after 10pm last night. The busy Galway route network N84 to Mayo approximately three miles from the city is home to a number of members of travellers living in camps on the site. Due to covid 19 restrictions Gardaí have been manning checkpoints from Friday on a 24 hour basis.
Last evening some members of the community – 30 males staged a protest. Am Ambulance was one of the first vehicles to be stopped at 10.15 pm and the confrontation lasted for 45 minutes . Councillor James Charity placed footage on his FB page and attended the incident. He spoke frankly to Keith Finnegan this morning. A statement from chief super of division was read also.

how many of y’all wondered like I did… step on the fupping gas
Poor old Reginald
never stopping again
it only takes one idiot to get in the way and get hurt, then you have an ambulance crew supended and a plopstorm in the media.
‘plopstorm’
they don’t often work, but when they do they bring a smile
What possible reason could they be against checkpoints I wonder
you’re asking the right question there methinks
The footage shows the reason perhaps? Social distancing. The funeral in Cork reported yesterday shows the contempt.
If the Gardai are on duty around there 24 hours, how come no arrests?
I’ll have a go.
Strong Garda presence meant nothing untoward happened?
That kind of behaviour is an utter disgrace. They should be reported to their employers…
Pavee Point will be around soon to blame the Guards and the Ambulance crew.
The Road Less Travellered?
No placards or signs, males only, and stopping all traffic inc ambulances. Thats not a protest its a turf war around their halting site and the Travellers are winning. Coucillor wants representative groups to make a statement and says its disapointing. Im sorry but thats tyranny of low expectations. Once again Official Ireland takes a soft touch approach to hard targets, the laws are not applied equally and we all suffer as a result.
100%
+1
I bet the people waiting for that ambulance felt really culturally-enriched.
Unusual for a group of people protesting against gardai for preventing criminality.
Gardai must be racist I suppose.
Holding up an ambulance needs a serious reaction from the authorities,
+1… And harder, the longer it’s delayed.
It’s like being on the set of “Deliverance 2”.
