A question for Twitter on this fine sunny day. Do you directly or indirectly remember anyone referring to The Botanical Gardens in Glasnevin as the ‘Bots’? Is it an older, Northside phrase? Sam.

In the 80s. Yes. It also referred to the horticultural course done there.
Yes, the Bots was indeed a place to stall down ta.
Always referred to it as the bots, as do my folks. I’m from Whitehall – maybe it is a Northside thing?
Apart from the Bots; I always say Botanic Gardens, but Botanical is also common.
Going to the ‘Bots’ to meet me ‘Mot’ (girlfriend) for you young lot!
Its definitely a used term.
