second book is one of The Expanse novels by James S.A. Corey. Really good sci-fi and an excellent tv show.

there’s maybe two books left in the series and plenty of material already published. I envy new readers as I’ve waited for each book so to be able to steamroll through a string of good books is a gift. Enjoy :)

Plenty of dross sci-fi out the last decade but also plenty of wonderful new authors. It’s a good time to be a reader.

Jitterbug perfume by Tim Robbins is good, very quirky and the only book I know where beets are important. And immortality.
Try Quicksand by Stephen Toltz just for the constant shower thoughts you’d never in a million years think of. That guy must be impossible to hang around with, it’s just non stop.

If you’re feeling daring, try Dan Simmons Carrion comfort.
Or a short story anthology by Simkis called “inside I’m always crying”
Not the best for comfortable days though. Be warned.

I know I’m over sharing, but Robert Holdstock, Mythagos and Lavondyss would be perfect for you. They’re such lovely fantasy books, I’ve fallen in love with.

I’m reading The Romanovs by Simon Sebag Montefiore – which is an excellent and distinctly mental non-fiction, and then also reading My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell – which I’ve found to be an uncomfortable read so far. Not sure I’ll finish it, but we’ll see.

In that case, I’m reading “Dirty Bertie” by David Roberts….

I’m on The Ginger Man by J.P Donleavy for some Irish flavor and How To Be Idle by Tom Hodgkinson ( again, I really recommend it ) a scholarly knowledge of the literature of laziness, a take on our busy lives and their historical roots, the kind of book I have underlined passages in pencil, one particular quote for these times I enjoy
” Illness is an obstacle for the body, but not necessarily for the will” Epictetus( c.ad 50) The Golden sayings of Epictetus

I’m reading the latest Malcolm Gladwell, so far so enjoyable.

I have recently been adopted by a kitten and despite being allergic I got up FOUR times last night to feed it after it danced on my itchy head, it’s trying to win me over with some canine moves like following me and sleeping on my feet

reader I’m won over if a little itchy and distrustful, has the kitten done what covid couldn’t and stopped me rubbing my eyes !

I’m also allergic to cats but we adopted a cat a few years ago, and while it took a few weeks, my allergy to *this* particular cat has long gone. No more itchy watery eyes, no more sneezing fits. I’m still allergic to other cats but not mine. And am now a firm cat lover. She’s a belligerent little toerag, but she’s our belligerent toerag.
