Yesterday.

Clare Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe calls out young, Irish, Covid-faking and almost treasonous TikTok users.

Good times.

What sort of idiot is he that he honestly thinks young people were meeting up to try “draw the covid virus onto themselves and pass it on to others”.
What the girls did was stupid but they weren’t trying to catch the virus.
Is this really the level of idiocy we have running the country.

    1. AKA Frilly Keane

Teenagers licking the faces off each other

      Terrible stuff
      Never happened in my day

      Only one thing for it
      Shut down all the schools
And clubs, even the GAA ones

But you’re all grand to go Mass

      1. Mick

Never did anything like that in my day.
        *ahem*

Just glad there was no social media when I was a young fella. I could only wish I had had the chance to be lickin’ the face of young wans, but I was too shy.

He says it’s not the one of the Skerries ladies. So it would be interesting alright – are there others in circulation?

But what the girls did was incredibly bad? no? purposely spreading the virus amongst each other. is that not what they did? I know the Gov. have a lot of blood on their hands (again) re: covid, but those girls purposely spreading it are very potentially going to kill people and/or make people very ill. why is that being marked down as “ah its only youngsters havin fun”?

    1. Stephen

They didn’t purposely spread the virus.
They got a bus together to go to a party.
At that point it seems one girl may have had a close contact and was awaiting test results.
Following on from this she tested positive and a few others have since tested positive.
The video was taken after their night out, when a few had been tested following the close contact and were awaiting results.
It was stupid, it was insensitive, but treasonous? No.
The conversation of who among us is going to get it would be normal among any group of friends to be fair.

He reminds me of Steve Buscemis character in 30 Rock trying to pretend he’s up to date with Tik Tok and “down” with Social Media. “How do you do fellow kids”….

“And at a time when there’s a fatality rate, at the moment, of 6.2% of those who contract Covid”

Ridiculously misleading use of statistics- is he seriously trying to imply that the dangers of people dying from Covid are now multiple times higher than ever before?

    1. Cian

There have been 1,777 deaths from 29,114 positive cases = 6.1% fatality rate.

I agree it is totally misleading because this doesn’t count all people that contacted COVID, on those that had a positive test. The real fatality rate is much lower.

      1. Micko

        Totally.

When the Swine Flu epidemic hit in 2009 they were crapping themselves with the ‘case fatality rate’. Was very high.

Then after the estimates of over 1 billion having been infected were adjusted. The mortality rate dropped to 0.02%

Hopefully we’ll see similar with Covid.

If we compare covid with the Spanish flue
You must factor in the improvement in health plus nutrition the fact ireland was poverty ridden with the worst slums in Europe things like rickets diphtheria and other nasty things and of course no health service

Then compare like for like with the adjustments

I actually think as bad as the Spanish flu was this one thanks to government will put the Spanish flu into second place

      2. George

Deduct the numbers that died from the removal of the bed blockers from hospitals introduced untested into the old folks home and we see a far clearer picture then there is also direct provision that was riskier for the poor souls than escaping the misery of war torn countries

“Crowe was first elected to Clare County Council in 2004 at 21 years of age, making him the youngest councillor in Ireland. Reflecting on this in a 2019 interview, Crowe said “I was very green when first elected. I didn’t own a suit at the time, was finishing exams at UL and drove around on a scooter. With my first pay cheque from the Council I bought a PlayStation 2. “

  6. Optimus Grime

In Crowe’s mind passing on the disease is just a step down from manslaughter and using a knife to cut something is a step down from attempted murder

  7. Cian

    Mick Caul is a dose.
Crowe didn’t call the video “treasonous”.
He said people holding covid parties are almost treasonous.

“In the past 48 hours I saw a video on TikTok of a group of teenagers who held a Covid party. They were placing bets on who would be the first to contract the virus, which is absolutely reprehensible. It is almost treasonous against the State in this time of need that people would engage in such behaviour, especially given that the fatality rate for those who contract Covid in this country is 6.2%. Their actions in trying to draw the coronavirus on themselves and pass it on to others bring them only a step or two away from being guilty of manslaughter.”

    1. GiggidyGoo

You’re not at all on form these days Cian.
The mere use of the word ‘treasonous’ in his statement is the important part no matter what it pertains to.
But sure didn’t he say that it wasn’t the Skerries girls that he was referring to? As in “I wasn’t speaking specifically on Skerries, I was speaking more generally,”
Yet he is quite specific when he says “In the past 48 hours I saw a video on TikTok of a group of teenagers who held a Covid party and were having bets as to who would be the first to contract the virus”
But you take issue with Mick Caul?
