This morning.
Alexandra Hotel, Dublin 2.
Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald (above) and party spokesperson on Finance Pearse Doherty launch Sinn Fein’s Alternative Budget 2021.
Sinn Féin has pledged to reverse the cuts to the pandemic unemployment payment and wage subsidy…
The party also said it would deliver 1,100 more hospital beds, 100 ICU beds, and it would recruit 2,500 additional nurses and doctors.
It also plans increases to various working-age social welfare payments by €5 per week, costing €222.5m.
The weekly pension would rise by €3 per week and €5 for those living alone…

It’s easy to shake the magic money tree and pretend there’s sweeties for everyone such absolute nonsense and yet another waste of time when they could be doing something productive instead.
The magic money tree bailed the banks and a lot of developers out, continually subsidises very profitable large international firms with tax breaks and supplemental social welfare wage top ups for low paid staff, also subsidising tax-free real estate investment “charities”..that magic money tree you mean?
+1
This magic money tree, with its bountiful fruit, grows not in the garden of the proles.
It is ensconced safely beyond their grubby fingers.
Privileged are the pickers.
+1
Brilliant
Well, considering SF had to coach FG as regards Fiscal Space, they look like they’re better placed to budget.
Can I have a yacht, please?
To go with your Audi Jake?
One for everyone in the audience!
…except if you’re a taxpayer!
Where will they get the money?
Northern Bank?
Well, wouldn’t €4bn go some way? Better in our pockets than Dinny’s.
Whose pockets?

I’m sure 2,500 Irish doctors abroad are queueing up to return and pay Sinn Fein taxes! Quel blague!
They’re queueing up at the moment are they? To be paid peanuts?
“2,500 additional nurses and doctors”…. maybe read the statement and dont interpret it.
The rancid FFFGGP (GP included as they are the Greenwash section of FG) and their fellow anti-citizen travelers have screwed over the tax payers for at least a century. If anyone wants it to continue then continue voting FFFGGP
for more of the same they are either blithering idiots or in need of medical attention.
It is time for an alternative there is nothing proposed in the Shinners budget that is unachievable and it is a million times better than the usual poop form FFFGGP
Yeah but its scary SInn Feinn, that just line to far, lets stick witht he same old poo, surely this time itll be different
There’s a fairly sizeable money well called the HSE.. If the structure was tightened, I’m sure we’d be dumping a lot money into it and they could increase the beds and payroll without a major impact. Like a business, you need to tighten the current processes and out goings its not just about generating additional funds and throwing further into a poorly managed pocket.
from someone in the know ” too many chiefs and not enough Indians “
No more than 6 large hospitals needed to service the country. However as usual parish pump politics by all parties means this will never happen.
For isolated areas air ambulances are the answer, look how many are operating in rural parts of England.
Love to know where they’re going to find the 2,500 medical recruits
if they have a secret pool of candidates they should share it
in fairness like
most of the nurses looking after my Dad were lovely indian ladies, plenty more where they came from
Shooosh Janie
You’ll wake the Keep Ireland for the Irish crowd
Btw
The NCH
If it ever gets completed
Will need 2,500 + more
Just saying
Maybe if they paid them a decent wage and didnt treat them like its the 1940s and still considered a “Calling” they woulndt be leaving th country in droves for better pay only to be replaced by less experienced people from other countries…maybe start there, what do think.
Top propaganda Gavin, the Nurses Union are very proud to have you!
Last year a nurses average pay — including allowances & extras for unsociable hours was €57,000!
This doesn’t even factor in perks and the fantastic pension.
no party can make this country work by the looks of it
When is Sinn Féin going to get on board against this lock down madness?
They will for sure- but when?
No they won’t
