This afternoon.
Dáil Éireann at the Convention Centre, Dublin
People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett makes an emotional plea to Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman (top) to consider opposition amendments to prevent his bill sealing records from the Mother and Baby Homes Commission for 30 years.
The bill was passed this evening 78-67.
Mother-and-baby homes legislation passes through Dáil (RTÉ)

Yesterday: ‘The Proposal To Seal The Archive Is Simply Impermissible Under EU Law’ [Updated]
The Green Party won’t be coming back again. It is time for Ireland to try someone new.
They’ll come back. They’re like a scummy virus that can’t be erased.
Shame on O’Gorman and the Green Party.
really couldn’t admire RBB more than already do – a brilliant representative, not just for his constituents but for everyone
would love to see a 1-on-1 interview between him and JR, actually. could bodger fix that?!
Will do.
we dont have too many iinteresting and genuine politicians, unfortunately, but getting the few we do have on BS would be great – would make a feature. and JR is superb at the 1-on-1s, imo. let’s them talk, let’s it be about them.
what happened to impermissible under EU law?
That’s where this will have to go
On the bs.telly there now, this vote was a segment. Two things to take away from this vote
One is how solid the Government Whip Vote is – this should have ye thinking that this Government could well get a decent run
The other is the Minister, did he have an either or from the Cabinet
Direct Provision Changes (announced yesterday) or this, the Mother and Baby Homes records Bill
Pick one kinda thing
Because that makes sense
No it doesn’t. No way he was given the decision on this.
He was told what he was getting no question.
Most probably
But still
It wouldn’t surprise me for the old time eFFers and Blueshirts to make such an offer
I’ve disliked out government. I’ve disliked some of the things they’ve done. But I’ve got on with it, the way they expect no doubt. Getting into Government, taking holidays immediately while covid sets in, giving themselves increases, hiring assistants, indecisiveness, lack of clarity.. The usual.. And I got on with it.
But not this. This isn’t good enough. This is actually pretty disgraceful. I think it’s time for this country to take a stand.
What do you suggest people do? Masses emailed TDs and Senators urging them not to seal but were ignored.
Time for weedkiller for the Greenwash party. How many pieces of silver did O’Gorman slurp up in return for his vile legislation?
Anyone know who the 2 independents who supported this are? Guessing Naughten & Lowry??
HRs I reckon
Think they’re the rural independents not the regionals?
Dr Cathal Berry (Kildare South) and Ml Lowry (Tip)
Thanks V.
Lowry no surprise – not familiar with Berry
Army Doctor
Ran as an Indo 1st time out in last GE
Might struggle next time out tbh
