Leather goods.

From the hands of acclaimed bluegrass musician and songwriter Niall Toner.

Niall Toner Jnr writes:

My oul fella (still a musician at 75, silenced by the Corona) has taken to making leather craft stuff during the lockdown.

He has a bit of a history of this, having founded the famous Toner motorcycle leathers brand in the late 1970s/early 80s.

These days he is making guitar straps and small pieces of furniture from repurposed leather, so it is suitable for (some) vegetarians too.

His handmade guitar straps can be got here.

I remember ‘Hank’ telling me one time that he started out in the “Rag Trade”
Maybe something for Broadsheet to answer for sure
But I seem to remember him telling me the family business was in clothing (of some sort) manufacturing
In and around Cork Street/ Marrowbone Lane

    So for me anyway
That Jim senior has these craft skills doesn’t surprise

All the best with it lads

Yes, original Leather Business was based at 49, Marrowbone Lane, where we made Toner Leather Motorcycle Jackets and Jeans, and one-piece Racing Suits. Our Jackets were very popular among the Courier Community, and I have recently seen several ‘survivours’ around the Streets of Dublin.

The first Sewing Machine I ever owned has also survived through thick and thin, and is the one featured in the Video made recently by Fiaz Farrelly. It’s a German-made Pfaff 141.

Yours, Niall Toner Snr, Alias Hank Halfhead Snr.

Good to hear from The Last Wolf on the Mountain.
I didn’t know you had another string to your mandolin!
