Mate, I get anti-English racism all the time on here and it’s water off a crispy duck’s back.

        Baddum Tish.

        1. ReproBertie

You’re not a stupid man. Surely you can see the difference between you, playing the role of a jingoistic English immigrant, spouting anti-Ireland guff all day long, receiving some anti-English guff in return and Dublin’s Lord Mayor tweeting about the US election and getting racist responses.

          1. Charger Salmons

Racism is racism mate, whatever the race.
You can’t pick and choose who should or shouldn’t have the right to be offended – unless you’re woke of course.
There’s none so intolerant as the right-on.

          2. ReproBertie

“Racism is racism mate, whatever the race.
You can’t pick and choose who should or shouldn’t have the right to be offended”
Agreed. Which is why I didn’t do any of that.

Here you constantly dish it out and occasionally you get it back. You’re dishing it out to wind people up and getting it back is a sure sign that you are winding people up. If you didn’t dish it out but you got it back then you’d have more of a right to be offended.

Dublin’s Lord Mayor isn’t dishing anything out but she gets abuse anyway, purely because of her race.

If this is confusing for you then maybe I was wrong in thinking you’re not a stupid man.

          3. v AKA Frilly Keane

            Yeah but Repo
Hazel needs to make it all about her being qualified, fully vetted by the Voter, and endorsed by the Council Chamber
as a hugely popular Councillor, and now Lord Mayor

Stop making it about race, move on

and leave the failed election candidates to their own racist and all their other nonsense effology

          4. ReproBertie

That’s a separate issue V but it’s not for me to tell someone who is constantly subjected to racist abuse how to deal with it.

          5. Charger Salmons

Well I choose to ignore it on here.
In much the same way that I ignore the widespread Anglophobia in the Irish media.
And allow myself a small smile when that same media works itself up into an outrage at any perceived slight against the Irish on the mainland.
As the usual suspects do on here.
I just put it down to the age-old inferiority complex.

  1. GiggidyGoo

She obviously wasn’t staying up mulling over her party’s support of leaking confidential documents by Varadkar. Nice to know the priorities.

    1. Janet, dreams of a steamed clootie

sounds like she was up getting high and the munchies and obnoxious or just drink and obnoxious and judgement impaired, what a dose

        1. Janet, dreams of a steamed clootie

Did I not sound annoyed enough… racist dose would be a better fit I suppose

  2. Brother Barnabas

I dont think that’s Justin Barrett’s actual missus – he abandoned his actual wife and kids several years to shack up with the bold Rebecca (despite all the moralising about what others get up to)

      1. Brother Barnabas

        indeed

just to be clear though- I, ordinarily, would have zero interest in anyone’s past, current or future relationships, or in how they conduct their private lives

but when there’s brazen hypocrisy at play, it’s fair game imo

        1. v AKA Frilly Keane

          this

In fact his previous relationships aren’t really out there in fairness
not where I’ve been seen anyway
and I wouldn’t go along with that kinda family stuff anyway

          its just him
          and his behaviour
          and his track record
all important afaic as he does lead a Political Party
And seek funds to that Party
and he does take to the streets to influence citizens on his views
          like to proselytise
and grow support for his party (current one anyway)

His relationships – past or present, are none of my business either

however Rebecca Barrett was a prospective candidate for election herself
therefore I feel I am entitled to question her politics
          and views

and quite frankly I’d rather not think about who she sleeps with
          (◎﹏◎)

          1. Brother Barnabas

banging on about “family values” and how the darkies will come in and destroy ireland by diminishing the sanctimony of the family as bedrock of society

from a little fellow who abandoned his own wife and kids to shack up with a young one from the office – and then sought an annulment

            fupp off

  3. Toby

Hazel has been banging on this drum since she came into office. I think its a narrow and divisive strategy for the Lord Mayor to be continuously engaging with trolls and

Hazel, with a successful career in business and in Politics surely should a role model for what can be achieved by a minority rather than a lighting rod for conflict.

I get that highlighting racism is important. But the same way as Gaelgoirs banging on about Gaeilge is annoying, its really annoying to be continuously parading your hurt in the public eye when you are a Lord Mayor.

Do you really think hazel’s strategy is reducing any racism in Ireland or just winning her sympathy?

This is not a baiting post, its a serious one.

    1. Joxer

yeah, spot on @Toby… she should shut up and just let the racism and trolling slide and not highlight. Same with the jews and the black fellows and travellers… we could remove racism in one stroke if they just shut the damm hell up about it…

      1. Toby

And there it is- the worthy grandstanding puffing outrage. Well done. you care.

This is why issues like this cant be discussed. This is why both sides are entrenching rather than talking. As long as you and Hazel use these issues as opportunities to play victim or saviour- then we won’t get resolution.

And she is the Lord Mayor for Gods sake. Not some journal commenter

        1. Daisy Chainsaw

If you want to discuss the issue, you could start by explaining why you hate people with a different skin tone to yours.

        2. Toby

You seem like a nice friendly type! Are you now building to tell me how much you care, how you’re against hate speech and how we should all be more kind and compassionate? Yeah, I know. Spare me.

Rebecca is a racist moronic imbecile. We all know that.

I was asking amore nuanced questions, but you’re more interested in showing how right you are. That is often the problem with discussions of these issues which leads to further entrenchment when people like you turn up all hell and fury and righteousness.

    2. v AKA Frilly Keane

I have to agree with Toby here

      yeah I know
      I’m detoxing at the moment

But from when the City Council elected Hazel as Lord Mayor
She should have started a new Journey

she had already dealt with the National Party and other objectors in the days after her election
she should have just got on with the job she was elected to when the Council then convened

      And now as Lord Mayor

Its unseemly, get the office to deal with it ffs

Late night tweeting and engaging with the Barrett’s
      FFS

      1. Jam

Detoxing from rational thought? Don’t go cold turkey. This is the angle you choose to take when presented with a situation where somebody is defending themselves from a racist? FFS.

        1. v AKA Frilly Keane

          No

          and wind it in Jammy

Hazel has no case to make with these people

She has all the citizenship rights I do
          – and she was born here, I wasn’t

She was a practicing member of the Law Library
Her Party nominated her to be their Candidate in the DCC election
          Pembroke Ward

the name on the Ballot was Hazel Chu
The Voters speak for all of us

And more than just reached the quota
Hazel Chu squashed it – record breaking
The Voters speak for all of us

The Voters said their piece, and In the days after,
          Hazel said her piece
to the Barretts and the rest of their Barrow Street rabbles
          And then took office

Hazel is now Lord Mayor of Dublin City Council
She doesn’t have to defend herself
Or get involved in putting manners on the likes of Rebecca Barrett
Dublin City Council and the Green Party and her Supporters and Voters are all the confirmation and affirmation ANYONE needs

The Barretts have been elected to NOTHING
and neither are listed on any Professional Register

Hazel’s job is Lord Mayor of Dublin City Council

If Hazel wants to do some late night tweeting – to unwind and the like, use a different account
          Or take up Baking

          1. Janet, dreams of a steamed clootie

80′ s week was the business in fairness, Hermine …I’d want to eat her food

          2. v AKA Frilly Keane

            Yeah
I actually had a post, like a proper one planned, for 80s night there
But I got cranky with someone

            And decided to feck it

Hated to see Lottie go tbh
If I was putting the tent over the last 11 seasons back together
She would be one of my picks

          3. Janet, dreams of a steamed clootie

oh I couldn’t stand her ! Seen better acting in the Abbey, I found her very insincere with a face like a slapped arse half the time, I’m glad to see the back of her,
the wee Scot lad is a dote

          4. Redundant Proofreaders Society

            +1
The Lord Mayor should not be seen to enter late night Twitter spats.

Additionally, there are elected TDs on Twitter spouting statements, some of them undemocratic or vitriolic. Is there a code of conduct for elected representatives regarding the use of social media? If there is, many are breaching it.

        2. Nigel

I’v noticed that for some Irish people the ‘good ones’ are the other Irish people of various ethnic extractions who quietly put up with casual everyday racism and don’t bother the rest of us about it.

          1. Toby

Sure we could all put up with it Nigel seeing as you are around patrolling everyones behaviour and taking offence on our behalf whether we want it or not.

      2. Oh No, it's Devo!

You wouldn’t happen to be a white person living in a predominantly white populated country by any chance?

    3. ian-oh

Racism is a serious issue, feel free to downplay it by all means though.

We can then move onto why you are annoyed with the recipient of the abuse rather than the person doing the abuse.

        1. ian-oh

Indignant? No, just sad that you spend so much time twisting yourself in a pretzel trying to cancel others by accusing them of cancelling others

Anyway, call it a sort of morbid curiosity, but by all means, carry on, I’m enjoying the theatrics and a very big thank you for your direction on how I post, I will be sure to take that advice onboard, beat it to within an inch of its life and use it for shark bait.

          ;)

  4. eamonn

That is BAT PLOPPY CRAZY, Ireland 2020 and we can still hear the knuckles drag.
why not call it out and shine a light, that is kind of school yard bully business.
Becky bebz, you want to big ya self right up and smell the coffee.
Fair play to Hazel for her civility in the face of such repugnance.

  5. rominick

I’m a supporter of the national party and have no love for Hazel Chu.
But Rebeccas blatant racism is exactly the type of thing which stops people taking the NP seriously.

  6. Delacaravanio

Apparently Rebecca Barrett is a primary school teacher in Limerick. Surely she should not be engaging in brazen racism considering her job? Surely teachers, as a profession, have standards.

  7. Sham Bob

Sure it’s not a false flag incident? Fake profile pretending to be a childish racist to embarass Justin and the lads?

    Maybe on a different day.

      1. Sham Bob

Well, naziboy was a plant apparently – designed to embarrass the fine folk protesting outside Google. I forget where I read that now….
