No. A lingering, long, smelly wet fart. Quite an apt assessment of his presidency to date.

          2. millie

That’s incredibly evocative and I rather wish you hadn’t.

It’s much too early for that level of descriptive detail.

Four-in-a-row actually. Party time for the SCU Members. ROFL.

Roll on 2pm. Building up nicely for another Varadkar, confidence trickster, pasting tomorrow night. I wonder how uncomfortable Simon Harris will be? Will he need to get the last word in again? So many questions, so few answers.

Varadkar – the squealwel. On your screens 10 Nov. 2020.

          1. GiggidyGoo

Sure work away. It used to be Charger getting the first post in, patiently awaiting the appearance of the front pages, and copying and pasting his pre-written (smelly even) messages to the world.

While you’re waiting though, maybe scrape the site again. ROFL.

I look to your posts from 2:05 onwards tomorrow.

That would mean doing something about voter suppression so yes that would be awesome. On the other hand, Republicans starting out by conflating ‘unity’ with ‘ believe our obvious lies’ should tell you where the real problem is.

    2. Daisy Chainsaw

Does that mean the only “fair” outcome is a Trump victory? He’s declared 2 elections he was involved in to be riddled with fraud, but despite setting up a commission to find fraud in the first one, he came up empty handed. If this election is fraudulent because he lost, was the last one fraudulent because he won? Trump can’t have it both ways. Deep down he knows he’s a loser, in fact, deep down we all know he’s a loser.

the left and the right wing belong to the same bird and it’s no Eagle more of a buzzard.

    4. Scundered

Biden supports the teaching of critical race theory which is incredibly divisive, bringing us back to the 1950s, nobody should ever be judged today by skin colour etc. It’s an absolute Trojan horse for a mini race war.

It also shows that Biden can no longer be called liberal, if he supports ideas that lose your right as an individual, and are governed by group classification. Liberals respect the right of individuality at all costs.

      1. Nigel

It’s not so much ‘incredibly divisive’ as ‘white Trump supporters don’t like it.’ But then again they do like the Confederate flag.

        1. Scundered

Well that was a lame deflect.
Do you want children to be told that if they are white they are oppressive and if they are black they are oppressed? You think that’s healthy for a kid’s mental health and relationship with each other? Every human being has a different experience, it is ridiculous to judge them all by skin colour, we are trying to get away from inequality not push it.

          1. Nigel

No. But then again, I would be willing to bet good money that critical race theory doesn’t do any of that. It sounds like pure white hysteria.

          2. Scundered

Then you should read deeper into it, instead of casting ill informed aspersions, if someone has a disadvantage by all means help them, but this idea of assuming disadvantage or advantage without evidence is bad for society, we’ve already witnessed how dangerous it is this year when anger spirals out of control, race relations at a new low and billions of dollars damage done to businesses of all backgrounds. That helps nobody whatsoever. In the UK the white working class kids are already proven to be most disadvantaged now, they perform worst at school, have deeper poverty, less likely to get to university, so how would you address that for example? And yet they try to bring in the same ideology in UK, it’s an insane way of translating the human experience.

          3. Nigel

Who says there’s no evidence? You do know that there is a long history of profound racial disadvantage in the US? Simply denying that it exists now isn’t going to make it go away.

          4. Scundered

So would you be ok telling Jimmy redneck whose mum and dad are meth addicts, that he is advantaged because he is white, more than the kids of the Obamas?

How can you agree that all cases are the same conclusion because of your colour?

Incidentally in UK the most disadvantaged group is white working class, they do worse at school, less likely to get into university etc, so what do you think should be done about that? You ok with holding back other ethnicities?

          5. Nigel

            Who’s arguing ‘all cases?’
            Who’s advocating ‘holding back ethnicities?’
            This is just white hysteria

          6. Scundered

Well what makes you think that all (insert colour) people would have the same experience? That in itself should give you alarm bells.

What about kids whose grandparents were of mixed race and offspring were one predominant colour? Are they no longer oppressed / advantaged?

You should be able to see now how quickly the whole ideology falls apart, pseudoscience is not good for politics. You cannot expect to treat people differently because of their skin colour, they cannot help being the colour they are. This isn’t the 1950s

    5. Sham Bob

Maybe Biden could reach out to flat-earthers by agreeing to a compromise shape, maybe a slightly convex disc?

  1. Gerry

Trump claims he’s filing multiple lawsuits to challenge the election results. Here’s my prediction– he will file few, if any, and he will win 0.

If you want to believe the election was fixed then you have a number of problems to deal with: no evidence, thousands of participants (including Republicans and Republican state governors) no whistleblowers, a scheme so cunning that it included Democrat House losses and fewer than predicted Senate gains. The idea is preposterous.

Biden won, it was closer than predicted but he won. And by Trumps estimation from 4 years ago the electoral college is a landslide.

    1. SOQ

We all knew Trump was going to throw the toys out of the pram if he lost but- did he? When you look at the expediential rise in support for Biden which happened in a number of states at exactly the same time of 4 am- that at the very least warrants investigation- because system ‘glitches’ have already been identified.

But from what I can see, the Trump team is primarily challenging the legality of certain votes.

Any ballot which arrives after the 8 PM cut off point is normally discounted and, I expect they will be arguing that any vote which they could not monitor- and challenge- at a reason able distance. is also not valid.

Even winning one, let alone two of those points in a single state could dramatically change the result, as it sets a precedence.

And one other thing- if they win on either, there will most likely be an audit rather than a recount which is a different process and a lot more serious.

Recounts are done by the same people- while audits are by state appointed officials with tight protocols in place.

      1. Nigel

‘Stuff I read on the internet’ isn’t submittable in court though, which is a pretty big challenge for Trump.

      2. scottser

soq, you keep going on as if american politics is in some way clean and honest. that elections are fair, and that they are won or lost on the issues presented by, and the strength of character of its contenders. that the systems in place are robust and transparent and that its institutions have only got the benefit of the citizens as their sole intent.
        you’re a bit gullible mate.

        1. SOQ

Not at all scottser- quite the opposite. I am not the one arguing that it is a done deal because the media says so- I say let’s wait and see what happens.

But when you have a country divided in such a polarized manner like this, where up to half of the people think the election was- rightly or wrongly- won by fraudulent means, then you are into very dangerous territory.

Due diligence must be at least seen to be done- or a very serious situation could emerge with people armed to the teeth, and itching to have a go at each other.

          1. Nigel

Trump supporters have no actual reason to think the election was fraudulent, other than believing Trump and internet disinformation. Due diligence is going to be irrelevant to them.

          2. SOQ

You don’t know that, you couldn’t possibly know that.

Either way my point is that at least half the country voted for him and if irregularities are not investigated- then it is the perception which matters .

          3. Nigel

Of course we know that – you can’t challenge elections without showing cause, and no cause has been shown. And perception certainly matters, which is why Trump is creating the perception that the election is fraudulent. What chance does the normal machinery of election oversight and security have against people who treat Trump as a Messiah?

      3. george

Yes, the president with the record low approval numbers who has completely mismanaged covid-19 while spreading racist rhetoric did lose.

    2. Junkface

The whiney press conference in the parking lot of the Four Seasons landscaping company, and not the famous Hotel, was the icing on the cake of the most hilariously incompetent White House teams of all time. A thing of beauty! Mmmmmmwaaah! :)

      1. Charger Salmons

Nah, my 15/8 wager turned out to be a bit of a damp squib.
Like the Donald I failed to take sufficient account of the mail voting.
Still, win or lose we’re on the booze.
I plan to make this whiskey cocktail week.
        Your preferred choice ?

        1. millie

I wouldn’t, it must be said, waste my preferred Springbank whisky on a sours though. That needs only an ice cube to be enjoyed.

          1. Charger Salmons

            Much like myself with Dalwhinnie.
Unsullied by anything except a single cube of ice.
I do like a good Presbyterian, though usually with a bourbon such as Makers Mark.
It’s funny how darker spirits become more appealing when the clocks go back.
I start drinking rum again during the winter.

          2. bisted

…I know you’ll find it hard to believe but I can become lippy and argumentative on the whiskey…however…I also like a nice whiskey sour…

          3. Janet, dreams of a steamed clootie

a nice peaty malt pour moi please an Islay or The West Cork Glengarrif peat bog, if I MUST go Irish

        2. v AKA Frilly Keane

          Well Charage

If yis all were BS.tv viewers ye’d have known just how competent and effective Mail In Voting is in the US
And t’was by way of a Republican, Paul Pate, that spooked my curiosity

and if Republicans at HQ/ White House copped on then, they could have make a campaign issue out of what one of their own proved in the Iowa primaries
And have had the US taxpayer fund it

maybe it should have come form an ould flabberjaxed white man
You know the kind — the ones usually more interested in the free food and drink than anything else

        3. bisted

…hard luck on your bet Charger…you should have done it with Paddy Powers…they paid out on Trump bets before the election when Farage joined the campaign trail…I know…I can’t understand those ungrateful Yanks either…

          1. Charger Salmons

Meh, it was only a flutter Bisted.
The boost to my FAANG stocks since the result has covered it tenfold.
The key is not to take it all too seriously.
The election of either Trump or Biden will have negligible impact on those who spent the weekend arguing with each other on BS.
We have more important problems with our politicians closer to home to worry about.
Lots of off-the-record NPHET briefings preparing the way for this lockdown to continue into the New Year for one.

          2. Charlie

“…it was only a flutter”. Strange that coz last week you proudly proclaimed to have “lumped” on. Does Mrs Charage know there’ll be no Kentucky fried pheasant for the foreseeable future?

          1. Charger Salmons

When even Dubya is calling the election it’s probably time to call it quits.
Trump would be wise to re-group for another shot in four years time.
By then Joe will be gaga and Harris’ brand of socialism will be turning off many voters.
Trump has a massive supporter base who adore him.
No-one else in the GOP comes close although Nikki Haley is a hugely promising prospect should Trump decide not to run.
A Harris-Haley ballot would be fascinating.

          2. v AKA Frilly Keane

Charage must have got new orders

            and is being re-deployed

Frilly Christmas Pudding Cake for the first sighting of next cover

Trimble and Cromwell – or any version of them, Lord Warden etc
            don’t count btw

Predictable I know but I’m kicking off the week with a Manhattan.

Interesting little bit of recent history regarding leaks.
    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/taoiseach-concerned-about-leaks-from-cabinet-discussions-1.3489665

Even more interesting are Noonan’s and Flanagan’s statements on leaks

“Supporting Mr Varadkar, former minister for finance Michael Noonan said leaks from Cabinet are a criminal offence, while leaks in general – such as those from parliamentary party meetings – display disloyalty.
Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan also said Cabinet leaks are a criminal offence.”

    Little did they know eh?

    1. v AKA Frilly Keane

Shur we don’t need former Ministers for Justice telling us this

Anyone who breaks the confidentially pledge
Whether they sign one or not
Accepting the Seal of Office from the President is the same anyway

      It is a criminal offence
same as Insider Trading – which is what Leo’s act participates in btw – no problem drawing the line between that and insider trading btw, stay tuned I suppose

So anyone, who do you know that has actually being charged with anything like Insider Trading, or Probity fails?

I promise ye, the most that’ll happen is a type of Sanction
      In Leo’s case
      an Oireachtas suspension

Like the one Mary Lou picked up there a few years ago for refusing to sit down,
      or something like that

Even if there’s a Leadership hoo haa
      shur that’s always been brewing

  3. Micko

Nice to see the headlines aren’t completely dominated by Covid-19 stories at the mo.

On the Journal app right now, the first Covid-19 story is a whole 17 places down.

    A welcome change.

        1. SOQ

Very much so- I just smell marketing spin a mile off. They predict 90% protection without ever considering other potential routes to immunity

The positivity is that we are seeing the tail end of a seasonal virus which is not by any stretch of the imagination a second wave.

And before the ‘lockdowns work’ starts again- there is no real difference between Sweden and other countries so the thing has just about brunt itself out.

          1. Junkface

            SOQ
The only difference between Sweden and its neighbours is 6022 deaths there compared to Norway 285, Finland 362. So that’s just a straight up lie from you.

          2. SOQ

I am talking about now Junk- not nine months go?

Even Johnson is under pressure to row back form England’s lockdown now because of the dodgy projections.

    1. Junkface

This is great news! 90% effective at this stage is really good, 70% is typically what it is at first.

      1. Charger Salmons

        You’re welcome.
You should know by now that I’m a cheery optimist.
        My glass is always half-full.
I’m a champagne supernova of positivity.
        Marvellous.

oh…if only the greens would do something about short term rentals like they promised.

“Rents rose 1.2 per cent nationally in the third quarter but were stable in Dublin due to an increase in availability of properties arising from the Covid crisis, the latest rental price report from property website Daft shows.

According to Daft, the number of properties available to rent in the capital is almost twice the level seen a year ago, with 2,700 units to let there versus 1,400 in the third quarter of 2019.”

…fooping FG landlords rip off ireland indeed.

FG/FF nationalized the domestic home building business and real estate development, asset stripping all the irish guys,by flogging in a fire sale their assets(collateral)to yank carpetbaggers.

Dublin needs homes,FF/FG control one the last great urban sites in EU-the country NEEDS infrastructure(homes) ,yet NAMA is wasting effort/energy and TIME or two deadbeats,Ronan and Barrack.

      thanks a lot blueshirts.

… Urban rents in Ireland have doubled from their low point early in the 2010s – as did rents in Dublin’s commuter counties. Even in places further away from centres of employment, rents rose very strongly, with the smallest increase by late 2019 almost 40% (in Donegal) and the average increase for Ireland, outside the five main cities, was still 75%….

as a report ‘Daft” is fatally flawed in falling market-asking or listing prices always lag reality, with landlords reverting to gimmicks like one month free,to keep the ‘list’ price on daft further distorting asking/list pricing, this trinity prof is well aware of his mickey mouse math, yet persists in producing, artificial bad numbers.

personally, i find his bad math an affront to Trinity quant/math grads:)

i kinda follow the EU cannabis market, here are the latest stats from germany.
medically grow weed probably probably selling at 4,000 a pound so while it appears like a LOT its only 11million or one months production from any decent 100,000 indoor grow-which should produce 100 million in flower rev annually.
my main area is weed-so i will just lash up some bits pieces as a fyi on EU market every now and then.

“Germany imported 1,759 kilograms (3,878 pounds) of medical cannabis flower for pharmacy dispensing during the third quarter of 2020, new data from the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) shows.”
