I hate to be that person but is this really a new concept in Dublin/Ireland? It’s donkeys’ years old in the UK, with books being left on public transport and cafes as well as in ‘little libraries’.

There was a huge resurgence of this type of thing in lockdown 1 because people with nothing else to do were clearing out their old books and leaving them outside their houses so that passers by could help themselves. There was no obligation to leave anything in return – mainly because the charity shops they would have normally gone to were closed, so taking them was doing the person who’d left them out a favour. Not quite the same but I thought I’d throw it into the mix anyway.

if you want to be the real fun guy, take every book and throw one in each neighbour’s front garden

      its hil-ar-i-ous

This has existed under different names across the country for the last decade or more.

What’s new is people creating their own and giving it a new name

I’ve seen two other houses around Dublin that have these in their gardens. Not sure how much use they get though, I pass one all the time and it always seems to be the same books.
