How any fair minded individual with an ounce of ethical probity could support the likes of hypocrite Varadkar and their FFFGGP cronies I really don’t know.

The sooner FFFGGP are turfed out the better.

And yet they did, and they do, over and over and over and over and over and over again. If this was the US or the UK we’d be told to respect the democratic wishes of the people who voted for Trump or Brexit and that people being snarky or critical about their political choices was the main cause of their political choices.

    2. Jonner

as if another administration would do things much differently

it’s the same senior civil servants running the show after every government change, not these political party leadership puppets

      1. Geraldo

Leo Vradkar really does show many of the characteristics of a psychopath.

Psychopathy is characterized by diagnostic features such as superficial charm, high intelligence, poor judgment and failure to learn from experience, pathological egocentricity and incapacity for love, lack of remorse or shame, impulsivity, grandiose sense of self-worth, pathological lying, manipulative behavior, poor self-control

        1. Bitnboxy

So basically any politician – from Trump to Macron, Johnson to (insert any other major Western leader), they are all labelled as such.

On a serious note though, our adversarial process particularly in the case of state-induced medical negligence leaves a lot to be desired. A settlement years after the harm on the steps of the court is particularly insulting and demeaning. They were able to create the fast track Commercial Court – why could a similar situation not be found for egregious cases such as the cervical check scandal where liability is not in question qua the plaintiff but simply between the defendants? So unfair on these women.

          1. Anti Bots

Go on get in there Goo. Did Vradkar carry out the test?

Why don’t your party carry out the tests?

Euro or shilling? Surely that’s a real simple answer. A one word reply. Nope deny, deflect, don’t answer. You give our to the other idiot all the time for failing to answer a simple question

    1. Jonboy

It’s really hard to communicate this to people without sounding heartless. The cold hard facts of the matter are that a small percentage of women will have false negative results which in turn means these women will go undiagnosed. This is awful but the alternative is no testing which would result in 100% of women going undiagnosed.

      1. Happy

It’s exceptionally hard to talk about! But it would be of benefit for people to understand.
I heard senior figures in cancer charities saying as much in a private context and I really wish they would say so publically as it would be well within their mandates of educating and informing, and promoting vigilance.

Key point – screening doesn’t prevent or shouldn’t even claim to detect cancer; it mitigates the risk of cancers being undetected. Understand that and people will be more likely to ensure they are regularly screened and won’t ignore symptoms in between screenings. And there will still be tragic cases because the world is a bitch.

        1. Ron

not telling patients about the incorrect result in time causing their cancer to progress to a point of death is the issue.

          1. Happy

Absolutely, I agree (even though they don’t do it in other countries , why I don’t understand)

That wasn’t what happened in this case, it’s a different discussion

          2. Cian

            @Ron.
This issue happened AFTER the women were told they had cancer.

Once the cancer was found and the woman told, Cervical Check re-tested previous slides (for quality purposes in line with best practive).

If the earlier slides, on re-examination, were positive CervicalCheck should have informed the women. But they didn’t.

FG have a history of being reprehensible when it comes to government failures.
    Think of Noonan,and hep c.
    Leo pards don’t change spots

There has been a facist malignancy in the Irish state twords it’s Citizens since the 30’s ,
on display last week in the treatment of the survivors of the Mother and Baby Camps and this week the continued venial treatment of these unfortunate Terminal Women running the legal clock out on them.

  4. denise o'kelly

This is not correct -the history of this is being forgotten – the testing was done in Ireland – as a cheaper option it was no longer done in Ireland – the person running the Irish testing said in ten years time you will see the repercussions from this …..
no doubt you wont catch everyone and there is an margin of error – however there is a lot more to this

    1. Cian

When Cervical testing was initially set up it started as a regional trial. The actual testing was done across 8 labs (most attached to the public hospitals).

In 2008 they wanted to go national (and Cervical Check was set up). The existing labs didn’t have the capacity to run the whole country so they needed to either (a) build specific test capability in Ireland; or (b) outsource.

before Cian or Rob_G come in to the comments to bat for their party, can I please ask them to hold off. Some things are utterly indefensible, and we’ve heard the heartless FG arguments on this a thousand times, so just leave it out for now ok?

    1. Cian

      I don’t “bat for a party”.
But I will add factual information – especially where people are, ahem, misinformed.

      1. GiggidyGoo

Your attacks on SOQ weren’t exactly factual when you lambasted him for suggesting that the Coronavirus was seasonal. Your master, Varadkar a couple of days ago then said there was a seasonal factor. You might remember me mentioning it a couple of days ago? About your contribution to running SOQ off the site?
Don’t you owe him an apology?
Your facts aren’t, ahem, so factual at times.

        1. Cian

When did i lambast him for suggesting it was seasonal? link please

When did I lambast him for anything? Yes, I called him out when he repeatedly came out with the same lies over and over.

When have my facts not been factual?

          1. Cian

He spent the whole summer saying Covid was over.

He choose to leave Broadsheet just as the second wave was hitting Ireland and Sweden (and vaccines were being rolled out) ; completely disproving everything he had been saying all year.

          2. Cian

            wow.
In that thread I had two posts, both 100% factual:
            ICU + hospital number

            and

CDC currently estimates 2020 excess deaths since February to be between 316,000 and 431,000.
            +Source:

            Verifiable Facts.

SOQ got upset when I showed him facts, or asked for facts. If he said Covid was seasonal and I asked for evidence – is that me “arguing” with him?

Like now. You made an accusation. I’ve asked you for evidence. You failed to provide evidence. And then you bring Vadakar into it.

So, once more: where is your evidence for me lambasting SOQ?

          3. Bitnboxy

@Crazypants: Glorious. Another “productive” day online insulting all and sundry Giggidybot.

“Your master Varadkar”. ROFL! Is there anyone more deranged on here than poor auld GiggidyGoo. I get that Giggidy has not had it easy in life but Giggidy, guess what, it ain’t Leo’s fault. It yours. So please, stop with what is bordering on a rather unhealthy obsession- yes critique him when RELEVANT, but your poor life choices and acute lack of ability to tolerate anyone letting a chink of reality in, that’s on you sweetheart.

I did actually laugh at “Your Master Varadkar”. That is so you, you poor auld wretch Giggidybot.

Mad as a bag of spanners.

          4. GiggidyGoo

Now, tell me just to be clear, are you saying that you never lambasted SOQ about the seasonal aspect he’d brought up? Is he referring to something you didn’t do?

I wasn’t referring to that thread, but to the ones that preceded it…September you started. You’re grasping at straws as usual.

          5. Cian

            oh my.

            If you consider
Can you tell me when the Covid season is?
            I thought it was in March-May;

“lambasting”… then yes. I totally asked SOQ to define what seasonality meant .He used it as a catch-all excuse for whatever he wanted it to mean. Originally the Covid season was March-May (wave 1). In Sept he was suggesting that the Season was September onwards…
I wonder if the season is *really* December/January?

          6. Cian

How is any of that an attack?
He was spouting rubbish that the USA has seasons.
He was relying on work done in the 70s by Hope Simpson. Guess what? We have actual data on the flu for (practically) every country in the world. And for each US state. We don’t need to rely on a hand-drawn grainy picture of a chart from a fifty year old book. We can see the actual data. And the actual data says that all of the (48state) US has the same flu season.

But SOQ was pushing some 190s flu ‘breakthrough’ (which he got from that charlatan Ivor Cummins) but it was, and is, not valid for the US.

        2. Bitnboxy

@Giggidybot Once again you are flailing. Insult and invective are not ways to make your points. I get that you are angry but lashing out day in day out online will not, and I mean this, alleviate that which ails you.

          Utter madness.

          1. Mick McCabe

Really now. Go seek help urgently. That’s a bad state you’re in.
I told you already. Please take the advice and seek it urgently.
Spending your time waiting for Giggidy Goo to post something. Seriously now. I’ve advised you to seek help. Just do it. There are too many disorders for you to deal with on your own.

          2. GiggidyGoo

+1 Mick. You missed Wednesday’s Bpox post (he posted it twice too) where he became a shinnerbot. Have a look back. He’s definitely cracked. I think you annoyed him with the Planter reference. You’re probably on the money there.

    2. Anti Bots

Was FG in power in 2008? Who was in power? Who set up the test?. Not the shinners – they did the usual – nothing. Its so tiring hearing of all its fault of anyone but those who want to take some form of a lead, as opposed to running away when it comes to decision taking. Lets just moan and make a boo boo of power in nordie land.

      1. Boj

JUST from that comment….I’m guessing you voted FG in the last election?

Gwan, tell me, am I right? :-)
