Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly at Government Buildings yesterday

This morning.

RTÉ’s Today with Claire Byrne

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has said analysis is being done on whether those aged in their 40s could potentially get vaccinated at the same time as those in their 50s, who will have to wait for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

“What we are thinking through is, in several weeks’ time, is there an option to begin vaccinating for example the 40-49 cohort in parallel [to the 50 to 59 year olds]?” he said.

The Department of Health is “running the numbers” today and over the weekend. Mr Donnelly said another “really positive thing” is the opening of the vaccination portal for those aged 50-59 next week .

Earlier…

Our beef with this (and the previous) government’s handling of Covid was the Level system – particularly how they implemented it. They threw all of their resources on publishing and distributing a phased system with clear parameters…then abandoned it. As soon ‘Level 3 and a bit’ was announced a year ago, confusion and lack of trust ensued.

July 22 I presume for indoor drinking?

Unless you can avail of a thieved one. Without consequence.

I wouldn’t trust their guidelines. they’ve proven they don’t know much and care less. this reopening is for popularity. nothing has changed that makes it safer to reopen now. over 70s still being vaccinated, new variants of concern.. etc. I for one, will be keeping away from crowds until im vaccinated. they say 80% of adults done by June? mark my words, they won’t be, and case numbers will be 1000s per day. ill bet any money with anyone on that.

Will ya relax. There letting the 50-59 year olds register next week and then it’ll be the 40+

You’re 40 right? You’ll get your jab in no time man. Tons of 60-69 year olds didn’t even register.

So it’ll be the same with the 50-59’s. There’ll be loadsa vax for everyone who really wants it.

      Chill dude… be grand ;)

well im quite eager to get vaccined quick, as my 18 yr old girlfriend is part of a risky demographic who aren’t taking precautions. (I also don’t like her being around her own age group in case one of those young bucks takes her off ol’ Farty’s hands)

          Ta.

I couldn’t remember that actual number and a) didn’t want to be accused of spreading FAKE NEWS and b) watching Sarah Mcinerney tearing Donnelly a new one for a second time was just to painful and cringe.

I cant rewatch the UK series of The Office for the same reason… actually Donnelly kinda reminds me of Gareth now I think of it.

            Awww.

Back when The Simpsons was great and you had to have really nerdy knowledge to get the obscure reference. ;)

            Good times man. Good times.

well Micko, I had a funny response, but the strict vetting operators of Broadsheet didn’t seem to like jokes about younger girlfriends. I doubt they’ll even let this comment pass. It’s like there’s a 1950s priest running the show here sometimes.

Despite all the good vibes and optimism about
Giving a great start to the Bank Holiday

I have my doubts they’ll see most of through tbh
I still think they’re going to hold loads back until after the leaving cert

139 people currently in hospital with Covid, 2,000 in mid-January. Something HAS changed. Maybe nothing has changed in the level of fear being generated by the media, they are desperate for money & they know that hysteria, hyperbole & exaggeration sells papers but in the Real World, everything has changed.

The quality of our politicians is such that, really, he’s as good/bad as any of them. Politicians like Eoghan Murphy have realised that national government, especially within the EU, is no longer where the power resides, it’s in the vaguely-named “International Affairs” arena, where he’s now bound. Up there in the EU, UN, WHO, WEF, IMF they weild enormous power, with zero responsibility & no electorate to bother about. Parliamentary Democracy is a busted flush, not a single parliament anywhere had any power during this current fake emergency, they were told what to do, they did it.

From about 2000 onwards, the WHO decided that a respiratory infection pandemic was likely & the UK, for example, responded by placing that at the top of their National Risk Register in 2008. By 2011 their Dept of Health had formulated a Response Plan, I’m sure Ireland had a similar plan, on a paper napkin, somewhere. They envisaged 750,000 deaths & planned quarantining vulnerable people but to “encourage those who are well to carry on with their normal lives for as long & as far as that is possible” & generally ensure “minimal disruption”. That plan was torn up & panic ensurd as governments were spooked by Fake News coming out of China, showing people dropping dead in the streets. Italy, with a Health System destroyed by years of Austerity (or bailing out banks) spooked first & everyone else followed. As soon as panic was widespread, chancers like the WEF grabbed their chance & we now have a pandemic that’s being operated to reduce Climate Change & over-population, rather than reduce harm to people. Our incompetent & almost powerless politicians & our unpopular Legacy Media have turned a problem into a possible civilization-ending event, kudos must go to them all, this is their legacy & it’s far from over, even if the lives we once led are.
