Buddy For You

at

This morning.

Behold: the Dublin Cycling Buddy app.

Launched by Dublin City Council’s ‘Smart City Programme’.

Via Dublin City Council:

The new cycling community app developed to help Dublin City Council use cyclists’ shared data to identify cycling routes in the city for development and upgrade.

Building on ‘ride data’ and comments logged by users, it will continually present data to city officials to help direct investment and route improvements across the city, as well as continually improve the algorithm’s ability to suggest safer and quieter cycling routes in Dublin.

Great idea.. I had a quick look: divert speeding bikes down residential streets.. cross busy roads where there are no traffic or pedestrian lights.. that’s going to work out well..

“speeding Bikes.. Residential streets” as opposed to speeding SUV’s weighing at least 50 times as much as a bike currently on residential streets. That’s working out SO well currently. Shall we compare the numbers of Children killed by drivers of cars vs cyclers of bicycles?

Last week was my first time back to cycling the city centre after a year and all the same potholes and sunken manholes are still there. Dame st is the worst.

In this technologically advanced world I don’t see why phones can’t be set to not work over a certain speed unless they are fixed in a cradle. I also don’t see why they can’t be set to allow hands free calls and satnav only over that speed. It would stop both drivers and cyclists acting the maggot

While we’re at it, can we also stop the vehicles going above 30kmph in towns and villages?
