Green coat and boots look is my cup of tea – though what’s the point, she’d never go out with me anyway and i’d only make an eejit out of meself.

Very interesting (assuming a repeat) profile of Perry Ogden on RTE late last night.

Number 5 down in the grey heavy-knit gansie is getting ready for winter wind. Number 2 down in long green coat and black wellies has a practical outlook too. In the Wesht they gotta dress for the climate.

    Thank god I am old
Once upon a time brown Thomas sold the most stunning cloths
Now the range looks like it’s cheap tat
Is it my imagination the cloths are hanging like sack cloth on a monk

I’m no fashion slave but personally I find it difficult to find good quality clothes in Dublin – stuff like denim or cotton that lasts a long time and gets better looking as it wears. The Japanese have a word for it – “wabi sabi” – though it’s really a Buddhist concept that applies more widely in terms of seeing beauty in imperfection. A leather jacket that moulds uniquely to your body and movements for example and shows this accumulation of your wearing it over time.

      Anyway, first world problems hah!?

Go into Levis in Dub, figure out your waist size and buy vintage Levis 501s off ebay or grailed or any of the resale sites, then just get the legs tailored to the right length (original hem reattached) and you’re set. Get the proper lived in / worn in look. Jacket’s are more tricky unforch, you really do need to try on.

          Cheers – good tip.

i do have a penchant for breaking in proper denim meself, the ol’ hand-loomed selvedge. Pricey but i have jeans that must be 8 or 9 years old with buckets of life in them,

          Price per wear innit !
