    Something else about that phone

    if it was provided for
    and paid for
    by his job

all activity on it is not really his property

and using it for personal use is in fact stealing from his employer
anyone remember the old HR policies and contracts forbidding the use of phone and then internet for personal calls etc

which is why one would assume he has a second phone for private & personal use

like family, eBaying, and campaigning n’ stuff

    just saying

Should also be backed up regularly. In fact it should be subject to mobile device control to prevent tampering too, and make it wipeable in the event of it being lost – what with all of the sensitive texts on it and all.

In fact, if his phone ‘has been hacked’ before, then I’d have questions about the security of these devices generally. Does it have access to oireachtas email? Is this based on a local mobile device management policy and username password, or are MFA controls applied? Or is it even just a public server with simple username and password?

Insane if just using two factor authentication in this day and age. As for the claims of being hacked, I simply do not believe him.

          More importantly

Does someone else besides the Minister have access to the device
have they been vetted and security what_have_yas
          signed the official secrets act

are they subject to the Cabinet members handbook

and that’s where I’m leaving it with ye

your local Anti Corruption people can take it from here

yeah, OLD polices. From back in the 90s when calls were prohibitively expensive.

Since they introduced “unlimited” texts, calls, and data that is no longer relevant.

How do you know if it was his phone or the workplaces?

And, no using the phone for non-work reasons is not stealing, these days most organisations have an ICT policy that allows for reasonable personal use.

I also assume government documents should not be carried around in such a sloppy manner for all to see
      Imagine him keeping classified material

Give the phone to forensic data scientists and let them attempt to restore the deleted data. No problem if theres nothing to hide in said texts surely?

Also, did Leo and Zappone also delete said texts from Coveney? A text conversation is two-way… Surely it would be an _awful_ coincidence if all 3 of them had enough concerns about their phones being hacked that they have to regularly delete apparently innocuous texts?

And if said hacking concerns are so serious, facing our most senior government officials, surely they’ve reported them to the Gardai?
