The approval by An Bord Pleanala for the development of a four-storey hotel on Dublin’s Merchant’s Arch has provoked a petition opposing the plans signed by more than 27,000 people to date
This afternoon.

Dublin City Council and An Bord Pleanala plan to destroy part of Merchant’s Arch to make way for an hotel. This is an iconic part of the city and it would be outrageous if the planning was to go ahead. There is a petition going on (see below), it would be great if you can share it. We need as many voices as possible to put a stop to this nonsense.

27 thousand? Dats an awful lot of dealers
petition filling male members – they must love the smell of wee
that is the only notable feature of that stinking rat alley
Lovely Cornish pasties in that alley
Lovely how some people have no issue with a piece of history being demolished for-profit and another crappy hotel.
Yep, awful attitude.
Philistines
Ooohhhhh FOR profit!
How dare people inhabit the real world!
Signed, cheers.
maybe we could vote in politicans who take account of voters wishes including things like preservation.
and those politicans could create an bord plenaula. And an bord plenaula could set up guidelines and oversee any development and allow certain things that are good for the city and reject somethings that are bad.
and if someone wanted to build a hotel they would need to ensure these guideliens.
Yeah thats worked out so well for Dublin up till now, especially the northside of the city…a cultural gem
What is the fuss? A horrible old 2-story building with 4 grotty shops is being replaced.
The alley will still be there.
The arch will still be there.
Luddites
And there….is your reason why these things happen, and always will….Cian and his colleagues opinions are all that matter.
They have spoken….
You can do better than that. Know your history. Know your insults If you believe the luddites did not have a legitimate concern then you clearly stand for the mill owners getting parliament to call in the military to crush the protesters.
