…surprised at the Star…the poor put upon otter…at least it’s a native species…more likely culprit would be those illegal immigrant mink that were released from their detention centres by misguided crusties…

I was mocked at home for recognising the perils of an angry otter.. glad it’s out in the open now and not just a secret known to river bank communities…

Great tune. Great band. Had tickets for their next Irish gig (Trinners I think it was) until this Covid nonsense came along.

Went to see them in the Olympia before covid.. they were better than the night I last saw them, in the stardust of all places..

Brooke Shields at 56, “I’m not.covering my body”? At least it’s not a Covid related story. Bubbles in La La Land.

With the sad news of Michael Nesmith’s passing (the lead guitarist of The Monkees, for reference), a band that defined my youth, for all they were repeats, is sadly down to one man standing. Micky Dolenz. Michael Nesmith was in many ways the sound of The Monkees, with Micky Dolenz the beat. Davy was the voice, and Peter the harmony.

For me, the Monkees were much more influential than the Beatles, a point I have fun poking a very good radio host with regularly. Never mind that.

In honour of Michael Nesmith, and his past mates Davy Jones (for whom David Bowie changed his stage name) and Peter Tolk, and in the best wishes for Micky Dolenz, I would like to offer this link to a wonderful documentary about the Monkees.

Thanks. Gonna check that documentary out. I have found reading biographies and watching documentaries of other bands and musicians of the era that the Monkees were quite respected by other artists of the time. Their “manufacturered” rep not being as issue, as it was and is for many music fans, as the other musicians were aware of just how manufactured they themselves were. It wasn’t unusual, far from it, it was just that theirs was publicly known. A bit sugary for my liking but undeniable that they produced a few pop classics of that era. RIP Mr. Nesmith.

@1-2-1-2. Incorrect there. None other? That would be John Stewart who wrote Daydream Believer.
I’m a believer was written by Neil Diamond.

Yes, much remembered by me from a childhood spent in two channel land. As a kid I really enjoyed their TV show, so colourful and vibrant and fun. Really made America (or the U.S.) seen so achingly cool and where I wanted to go when I was older.

    Psst… pssst… come here

Ye didn’t hear it from me, right… but…

Three jabs, sort out omicron, everything will go back to normal sunshine, I promise. Shhh… (looks around) government don’t want people to know – sly buggers.

Now, you keep that to yourself yeah? Good lad. Nudge nudge wink wink. Also, do you want to buy a watch?

‘Fintan O’Toole’ would be the ultimate insulting label to give someone. ‘Irish Times Reader’ a close second.

        1. Micko

Ah sure who knows eh? Maybe all three.

Although, if you take a few mins there to read the comments at the end of Fintan’s article, my fellow IT subscriber, you might see that this particular dissertation isn’t going down well with the readers.

          Is ze vorm turning?

And he – I refer to their biological sex, which is male – is one of many ruining young women’s sporting hopes and dreams.

It’s like bursting kids balloons. That’s you Nigel, bursting kids balloons with a self righteous smile on your face….. Euuuuwww, such a creep!

          1. Clampers Outside

            Sorry BS, if I overstepped.

            Let me try again.

Nigel pet, you see the word “like” there, yeah, good lad.

As for your “they’re adults”.. “not children” remark which reads like a pathetic attempt to justify your sexism. It doesn’t.
It doesn’t make it any less of a sexist misogyny that you’re advocating.

          2. Nigel

Using claims of misogyny to thinly disguise your attacks on trans people while treating the athletes you claim to be standing up for as if they’re children, then having meltdowns at me over it. Well, I suppose it keeps you off the streets.

          3. Clampers Outside

Your claims of “meltdowns” at you is your ego speaking Nigel… and that, good lad, is a balloon you should pop.

The rest of your comment is your assumptions.

I’m typing this as I sit on a wall, half way through a pleasant afternoon walk, thanks :)

      2. Clampers Outside

And back to the weightlifter…. They DID do this, they denied numerous women their points many qualifying competitions for the Olympics and obviously took the place of one.

You can dismiss that if you like, that is your misogynistic form on this topic. I won’t dismiss it, I’ll call it out.

        1. Nigel

I’d be more impressed at you suddenly finding a form of misogyny you can claim is actually real if you weren’t using it to viciously attack a minority and infantilising grown women while doing so.

          1. Clampers Outside

Wow, you really are trying that line now… *guffaw* proper LOLS!

You’re an outright deluded fool if you think I’m not repeating the sentiments of many women and professional female athletes who are sick of your sexist ideology.

I say again, deluded and in total denial of your blatant sexism.

            Grow… The… Fupp… Up!

I don’t know if freezing your eggs is a guaranteed way to future proof your fertility chances. I read somewhere the results can be very mixed. Best of luck to Rita all the same!

  5. Imelda Maybe

Thank God for Clampert and Nigul. It really is possible to be more boring than the Shake’n’Vax gang.

    Transbores.
