This morning.

Leinster House, Dublin 2.

Sinn Fein Spokesperson on Housing Eoin O Broin TD launching to the media on the plinth a bill which would ensure that the past bad building by rogue developers would be considered when any new planning permissions are decided.

Deputy O’Broin said:

“We have seen how negligence or failure to build to an adequate standard has affected thousands of homeowners across the state.

“From Priory Hall, the Leinster pyrite defects, the pyrite and mica defective block scandal, fire safety and other structural defects in apartments and duplexes and dodgy home extensions, homeowners have been left questioning how these homes were allowed to be built in the first place.

“This bill is a small but important measure to put a stop to rogue builders with a record of bad building by enabling local councils and An Bord Pleanala to say no.”

he showed his understanding of class alright

especially the bit where his government fell because tone deaf FG felt it would be acceptable to slap VAT on children’s shoes

Budget ’82 swiftly became Election ’82

        Reference accepted.
For sheer interest in the subject, I had a look back at that Budget vote. It was actually the vote on a hike in beer that collapsed the Govt. (https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/debates/debate/dail/1982-01-27/24/) but yes, kids shoes will always stick out as the infamous error.

The transcripts are gas, the opposition are quibbling about whether Cider and Perrys are affected by the increase. Touchy subjects once you get back to your constituency ‘clinic’ in 1981 I guess.

As neither has IRA hunger striker Tom McFeely, who actually built Priory Hall.

        Post your construction complaints to:

        Fianna Fail
        The Big Tent
        Galway racecourse
        Ballybrit,
        Galway, H91 V654

If you want your letter opened immediately on arrival, make sure you use a large brown envelope.

I’m convinced Ó’Bróin has about 30 pairs of the same glasses, frames and lenses all marginally bigger on each pair and by the end of the year he’ll be like kids-TV era Christopher Biggins (ask yer Ma’) and no-one will even notice.

“All the better to see you with my dear”

Are Councils and Bord Pleanala already allowed say ‘no’?

if answer is ‘no’, then that is just bananas.
if answer is ‘yes’, then what’s new in the bill, really… ?
