This morning.

Via RTÉ News:

The FAI and IFA will be part of a joint bid with England, Scotland and Wales to host Euro 2028.

The five associations had initially commissioned a feasibility study to host the World Cup.

However, following an analysis of the economic impact, the political football landscape and likely costs involved, the alliance has opted to focus on the Euros instead, with the FAI saying in a statement: “Hosting a UEFA Euro [championship] offers a similar return on investment, with the European tournament carrying a far lower delivery cost and the potential of the benefits being realised sooner.

“It would be an honour and a privilege to collectively host UEFA Euro 2028 and to welcome all of Europe. It would also be a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the true impact of hosting a world-class football tournament by driving positive change and leaving a lasting legacy across our communities.”

While I think this could be a good idea, I wonder how the visa system will work. EU citizens will have no problem coming to Ireland, but will need visas to any of the UK-based matches.
I am not sure if there are any non-EU members (other than the UK) in the Euros, but there is a possibility they will need 2 visas, which may be a strain on lesser funded national squads

    Be interesting to follow

Russia, Turkey, Serbia and Switzerland are usually at the tournament. Ukraine make the odd appearance

The FAI couldn’t host a soup kitchen, but I assume that Paddy will cough up millions to massage the egos of an incompetent pack of goons, as per usual.

Absolute nonsense. Where will the FAI / IFA host games? It’ll be a couple in Lansdowne road with the natives scrambling for tickets! FAI / IFA haven’t a pot to piss between them. Both would need to go to the GAA and IRFU with begging bowls for the use of Thomand, Pairc ui Chaoimh, etc to make it anyway appealing across the island and no doubt us lot will be asked for a few quid via the government to bring this “wonderful opportunity” to the country. oh please.

Croker would probably get used – if there is a few bob in it for the GAA, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be.

It’s time there was only one Irish team not two ,Just like rugby .Just get rid of the whole corrupt parasitical FAI
Which is the reason there is such failure in Irish soccer .
