if you do your riding on the beach at ringsend you can stare at the pipes if eye contact isn’t your thing

A very ‘on your back’ view of things Janet. You could mix it up, avoid eye contact (we’ve all been there) and both have a view..!!

I did the riding on portmarnock beach some years ago and there was nowhere to stare, but I did get sand on my arse

I was having the ride up there once when we noticed an auld fella having a calm gawk, sat down he was, all comfy, ” don’t take the kettle off the boil ” says he, cheeky fupp

    ok ok for reals
Crabby Joe’s in Howth after a bracing walk on the pier, a massive plate of eat with your fingers aphrodisiac shellfish, cosy on a shared banquet, then down to sit in front of the turf fire in the wee pub under the train station, good memories.

And whilst snuggling perhaps a stray and yet accurate hand could be put to good use…

Coumeenoole Beach in Kerry (next stop; the Blaskets). Wide views of the sea to make you feel small in the face of such majesty, a winding descent to a quiet beach, dancing in and out of powerful waves to get the blood pounding, the high tide forcing ye back up the cliff to a warm house and a crackling fire. The wreck of the MV Ranga may be gone from those rocks but the horror stories persist to keep two hearts close that night. Magnificent.

There is a spot on the featherbeds where only one car can pull in, which provides complete privacy for wild abandon with a view of the city, including the twin pipes, and the thrill of passing lights from the other nighttime debauchers.

My favorite place is, Dublin airport on my way to anywhere.

Nah, messing, it’s a little house in Drimnagh with very dear friends.

The dance floor in RíRá – for rekindling the auld youth.
    Sadly extinguished.

  8. Shera

Sitting side by side in the bathing huts in Dollyer with a big bag of chips, feeling the sting of the vinegar vapour in your nostrils and the sting of the wind on your cheeks, gazing out over the choppy grey water at the city while the gulls call out overhead.

    Homesick and upsetting myself now

  9. Daisy Chainsaw

Saltee Chipper in Kilmore Quay. You have to wait ages after you order because of its popularity so there’s time to go for a walk, taking in the sea air to build up your appetite and then get fish straight off the boat. A drink in Kehoes afterwards to round off the experience… although they do great food too.

    Damn, I’m hungry now.

The back hall in Slattery’s of Rathmines – A great place to hide and recover from a night on the drink with more drink

The library bar in the Central hotel. Great place for me to catch up with friends one on one when you wanted to have a quiet chat, started with a mate who had emigrated, would meet him there for that reason anytime he was home.

Then I went on my first date, completely on the dry with who would become my wife, she had been there lots as well for the same reason of it being great for a chat.

I still have the swipe card for the loo from that date, not really a sentimental person but I kept that.

    1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

nothing says romance like a loo swipe card…only messing, love that bar

      1. Ian - oG

        ;)

I know, didn’t keep it deliberately at first, found it in the wallet when I was swapping over to a new one about a year later so popped it into one of the holders in the new wallet and have had two more since and have kept it as there is a picture of the bar as it was at the time on it. You wouldn’t actually know its was for the loo, think it was the standard room card at the time. But I do get a laugh out of it, the one time I am sentimental…..

The snap of the elastic on the speedo as I pull it tight, just before diving into Vivo Baths for a long open water swim.

  13. Clampers Outside

Downings in Donegal… a spot of skinny dipping at 2am, followed by lots of snuggling to warm the cockles! Boom-boom an’ all that… Or should that be bang-bang
