Meta Data Breach

at

This afternoon.

The Irish Data Protection Commission is imposing a fine of €17m on Facebook parent company Meta.

Via RTE News:

The decision followed an inquiry by the commission into a series of 12 data breach notifications it received in the six-month period between 7 June 2018 and 4 December 2018.

The inquiry examined the extent to which Meta Platforms complied with the requirements of GDPR, the General Data Protection Regulation, in relation to the processing of personal data relevant to the 12 breach notifications.

The Data Protection Commission found that Meta Platforms failed to have in place appropriate technical and organisational measures that would enable it to readily demonstrate the security measures that it implemented in practice to protect EU users’ data, in the context of the 12 personal data breaches.

I had a chat recently with someone who works for a social media giant. He was remarking that WFH, during lockdown had severely affected their ability to function. Staff were taking advantage & lie-ins, to the point where projects were being shelved & normal functioning was barely maintained.
Wokeness had also begun to seriously impact on the quality of their staff, as people were chosen for their intersectional standing rather than programming ability, a talent that resides largely in white geeks. He talked of one Asian girls who could barely speak English & was clearly taking WFH as an opportunity to catch up on her sleep. Nobody was prepared to deal with disciplining or sacking a member of a minority, so management stopped even contacting her & she was left to do whatever she liked with her time.
