Classy! Assaults a guy for a tame joke about his wife and then gets a standing ovation? Hollyweird at it’s best.

I stopped watching when he started talking about what god wanted him to do….ffs

…i waited ’til the end of his speech just to see if God came up on stage to slap Smith in the face.
          But alas no… ;-)

He was protecting “his” woman. Really wrong as the U.S. guarantees the right to bare heads.

    2. Cui Bono?

They were both acting. Probably trying to get some attention for the Oscars because its lost millions of viewers over the last few years.

Forgive the early Monday morning cynicism……. but it all seems terribly scripted. The viewership numbers, public interest and involvement figures for the Oscars have been falling off a cliff for the better part of a decade.
A part of me thinks that this choreographed dispute was engineered to get the Oscars back in people’s minds and appear relevant again.

Yup- very staged looking- those characters know how to keep a lid on it- they are up there year after year cheek kissing while hating each others guts.

    2. Cui Bono?

Exactly, it was blatant acting. Chris Rock leans forward slightly and clenches his teeth fully expecting the slap.

video suggests will smilth laughing at the joke but his wife looking horrified. wonder as the camera went back to chris rock if the wife said something to Will or Will noticed she wasnt happy.

Might be good to have a discussion on what lengths a partner should go to to protect their beloved when comments are made. i wouldnt know what to do if some guy on a construction site shouted to my girlfriend to “show us your b**bs”.

Yes looks staged managed to deflect from the worst film since Crash, the appalling saccharine sub TV movie schlock Coda winning best picture in yet another sign of the Academy’s innate homophobia.

Did you just have a comment removed or is there another thread somewhere you posted the same comment worded differently ?

Anyway, that cumberbatch movie that I’m sure you are referring to being snubbed was a snorefest and didn’t deserve the win. Nothing to do with homophobia, christ you can’t swing a cat there without hitting an agenda and yours is very well represented.

Brokeback Mountain being the classic example of what I was referring to losing the the lamentable Crash. If one wants to see an intelligent progressive take on the issue of modern day deafness then look no further than the shockingly snubbed “The Sound of Metal” from Darius Marder . Coda is a bland formula driven coming of age cringefest that is like a bad episode of Glee with less cinematic technical merit. It doesn’t even begin to dip its toe in the water of the themes explored by The Sound of Metal

As they have an “open marriage” (ie she regularly cheats on him), I’ll go with Small Willy.

I wonder if Big Willy would have thrown a slap if it was The Rock instead of Chris Rock?

    Doubtful.

  6. Micko

Anyone else think that Chris Rock resembles Mohammad Ali in that top pic?

I bet Will Smith does too…

The joke was in poor taste because of her alopecia but I think the reaction was way over the top and was more like an attention seeking stunt than anything else. Doubt it was staged, just stupidity. The touching up of Momoa was also ridiculous. If a man had done that to a woman there would have been hell to pay.

    1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

I did like that COVID meme, wash your hands like your washing Momoa…. call me motivated

    1. Verbatim

Mmm, what would Ricky have done? He cut to the bone many times on his last two presentations of the Oscars.

      1. Hughie Luas

“Are you lookin’ at my bird?”

Violence on behalf of his property. Plus he laughed at the joke. Done more to enhance the stereotype than Mike Tyson ever could. Smith should have the Oscar removed.

  8. TenPin Terry

To be fair if Rock had insulted the fragrant Lady TenPin like that he would have immediately received an invitation to accompany me to the cobbles for some windmilling although lamping the creep on live TV is a pretty good alternative.
Thing is I’ve no time for Smith either – untalented and unfunny.
    It’s a thug’s life I suppose.

  9. Cú Chulainn

Total and absolute set up. If it wasn’t Mr. Smith would have been removed from the show. I suspect there was a tad more force than had been rehearsed. Could be a bit of history there, the openness was Rocked ? Viewing up over 50% and a big audience for next year. There’s no business like show business..
