This morning.

The Chair of National Campaign for the Arts said she hopes the eligibility to qualify for an artists basic income will be broad and that the final selection is randomised, rather than on a competitive basis.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Angela Dorgan said: “I think today marks probably the most momentous indication of how Ireland values its artists, probably since, you know, the establishment of the Arts Council who celebrate their 70th birthday this year.”

She said the eligibility criteria should be easy to get through and she hopes that there will be “multiple boxes to tick” in terms of eligibility.

Ms Dorgan said that most artists live under the poverty line and work in cycles.

She explained that if an artist has a successful project during the three years of this pilot scheme they will pay a high tax on those profits.

“If you sell that brilliant painting or that album you made goes to number one, you pay 40% tax on the first euro you make from that,” she said.

Will Bertie Ahern be give a UBI considering he was given a tax exemption around 2013 for his biography, an exemption meant for artists not disgraced suicide promoting, faux stuttering scumbags like him?

Also, who will be the final arbiter of what and who is an artist? I can imagine plenty of the dim kids of certain RTE or political dynasties throwing some pain on a canvas and calling it ‘art’ and being lauded for it.

There was a lot of talk at the time of that that stage crew, Roadies, lighting techs etc were being completely neglected.

I dunno. Not my area of expertise. But I heard that some, as they were self employed and perhaps not paying stamps (or not enough) etc got left out in the cold.

A wolf in sheep’s clothing…. You pay above the odds tax on income during the period.

Would the thought of a 40% tax on earning not “stifle” creativity?

These people really do not think

…if you take a gallery stipend or advance for a show,in other words say a Soho gallery agrees to a show in July and want 6 pieces, they will pay you in advance but take 50% the sale proceeds.

Great! I’ll finally be able to quit work and make a Gabber/Trad concept album called ‘Traitors’ – about the corporate capture of politicians/regulatory bodies.

Fingers crossed my proposal gets through. But my cynical side says the funding is going to go to the usual woketard halfwits – peddling the regimes nauseous nonsense.
