Really poor journalism in my opinion. Seems like it was cobbled together by different writers.
Opening sentence starts off with“The appalling crimes against humanity[link to report on Bucha massacre] allegedly committed by Russian soldiers against Ukrainians..” but by the middle of the article, it comes out with this line: “Russia even attempted to convene the UN Security Council to discuss atrocities [link to article regarding proposed UN discussion of Bucha] – which its forces were clearly responsible for – that it alleged were committed by Ukraine.”

The preceding paragraphs make no case as to why the Russians are now “clearly culpable” and can be paraphrased as “Well, they would deny culpability, wouldn’t they?”. The rest of the article is of a similar standard IMO.

      1. SOQ

Ex Pentagon senior advisor Colonel Douglas Macgregor has a very different take on what happened in Bucha. He makes the point that the white arm bands symbolise not being part of the war and he questions why the Russians would do such a thing when they were leaving.

“I’ve seen this before. I saw it in the run up to the Iraq war”

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9NaiNY4N5s

        1. SOQ

One other thing- he says that the Ukrainian army are known to have been killing people who wear the white arm bands. If that is correct then it completely changes the narrative.

          1. Nigel

So it makes no sense for the Russians to kill Ukrainians so it can’t be happening but it does make sense for the Ukrainians to kill Ukrainians therefore big if true.

      2. Fearganainm

Russian soldiers ‘discussed killing civilians’ in Ukraine in radio intercepts

        https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/apr/07/russian-soldiers-discussed-killing-civilians-in-radio-intercepts

“…According to Spiegel, which indirectly referenced people who had been present at the meeting at which the BND officers delivered the fresh evidence to a select group of MPs, the recordings “entirely invalidate Russia’s denials”. In one of the radio conversations, a Russian voice is heard telling someone how he and another soldier shot a person who had been on a bicycle. One of the many pictures of the atrocities to have gone around the world in recent days was of the corpse of a person next to a bicycle…”

It’s gathering pace all over the west
Let’s face it we should ask is the situation in Ukraine worth a global nuclear war?
The war drum is banging and not one independent war crime inspection as been carried out to see if indeed Russia is guilty.
War is a nasty business and remember NATO and it’s WMD in Iraq
Until the UN has conducted a full forensic investigation and it’s proven they did do this then we have to wait and see
This could lead to WW3 and a nuclear war

      1. anti bot

it’s not an effing war you a hole. It’s an invasion of a bigger country into a smaller country, resulting in the killing and forced escape of innocent people.

      2. Broadbag

        @Dinkum
So just let the warmongers take Ukraine? And then what, emboldened they fancy Moldova and while they’re at it they may as well take Latvia and Estonia…those pesky Finns seem keen on Nato so let’s take them too? Go ahead Russia, just don’t drop any nukes on us, take whatever you want?

        1. anti bot

Don’t expect an answer. These a holes just spout poo and run away. They look at qanon websites come on here, make ludicrous comments then run away. Urkanians are lucky that they don’t live there. They would be hiding behind their children. cowards

Funnily enough I was at a local garden centre here in Blighty today where I happened to have a look at the Webb Pro 18″ self-propelled lawnmower advertised in the Co-op Superstores sale on the front of the Examiner for €429.
    It was £279.99.
Do they charge import tax disguised as VRT on mowers as well as cars these days ?
The fragrant Lady TenPin has just suggested a ride-on. At least I think that’s what she said.

      £280 x 1.20 = €356.

how much do you reckon the transport cost is to Ireland?
How much do you reckon it costs to clear it through customs?

Then again, they’re £359 normally in the UK. Any shop can advertise them for €279.99 when they haven’t got them. That’s what makes you blighters so dim.

    2. TenPin Terry

      Don’t Ireland make lawnmowers ?
Webb is a good old-fashioned British company going since the 1800s when they started out selling seeds.

That Whelehans wine advert on the front of the IT caught my eye as well.
Upon investigation the first wine I picked out was a 2015 Pauillac CHÂTEAU LYNCH BAGES. Retails at €325 a bottle.
Online here in Blighty it’s £117.
        Brexit, eh ?

      2. GiggidyGoo

Charger – you were trying to make a point of a lawnmower being cheaper in the UK (made by a UK company), but when you were, erm, informed of the reasons why UK goods are more expensive in Europe (thus the fall in UK exports mind you), off you went on another different subject.

Britain’s turning into a right wing sh 1 thole and with a women beater as their PM and a pederast escorting their monarch about (and he is just one of many) it’s no surprise.

MK Bhadrakumar, former Indian ambassador and foreign office diplomat for 30 years gives his informed opinion on the current state of affairs in Ukraine.

    https://www.indianpunchline.com/fake-news-in-kiev-heralds-cruel-april/

He deems the media conclusions that Russia is culpable for the Bucha killings even though “No expert opinion was sought, no forensic work was done, no opportunity given to the accused to be heard.” an example of “fake news”.

Bhadrakumar: “To be sure, a major battle is approaching, the most decisive in the entire Russian special operation so far. The catch is, the [Donbass] cauldron also has plentiful settlements of ethnic Russian population (including Russian passport holders) and the offensive will be a long grind patiently executed to avoid civilian casualty or destruction of civilian infrastructure.

That is to say, Phase 2 may last anywhere up to a month or so to be completed. Make no mistake, the Russians have to win here (which they will) as they will also be breaking the back of the Ukrainian armed forces. Despite all the bluster by Zelensky, Kiev will realise the enormity of the defeat and his western mentors will see the writing on the wall too…

..The Ukrainian forces are well-armed and have fortified themselves heavily but are unable to escape from the entrapment [in Donbass]…The Russian forces have put out of action all nearby airports and destroyed the nearby Ukrainian oil reserves systematically through Phase 1 of the operation. As I wrote in a previous blog, three days ago, Russian forces dealt a devastating blow..

…To be sure, a whole month lies ahead where the western strategy will be to incessantly manufacture fake news, intensify the information war. Even some false flag operation may be staged under the supervision of western intelligence operatives.

In a worst case scenario, Kiev may even play its last card — chemical weapons.”

      1. bisted

…shameless indeed…pity the poor innocent Ukrainians being used as pawns in a shameless power grab against former comrades…

          1. Dinkum

You must have Alzheimer’s for you forget the rhetoric coming from zelensky before putins invasion add in the wests as well
Also the fact NATO could not state that Ukraine would never be allowed to join NATO
and let’s face it ukraine was trying to join the EU and as such would not need to be members of NATO and when it succeeded depending on complying to EUs requests to the rules and laws would have protection from the EU unless of course the EU admits countries as members who do not commit to the EUs principles
you do not poke a lunatic like Putin
This invasion could of been avoided

          2. Nigel

Wow a soveriegn state wanted to exercise its soveriegn rights of self-determination, what a war crime. They didn’t poke Putin, they got in the way of his ambitions.

          3. bisted

…this is an existential crisis for Russia…they saw the democratically elected government removed by a facist mob and the further encroachment of US…their objectives have not changed in Ukraine…denazifacation and demilitarisation…if the US interfere with this objective there will be a nuclear war…Russia have nothing to loose…

          4. Nigel

How is it an existential crisis for Russia? That makes no sense at all. They aren’t under military threat from anyone, not with nukes to keep their kleptocracy safe. Their interference in Ukraine has been far worse, more destructive and threatening than anything the US has done. Their objective in Ukraine is deukrainisation – they’ve said so explicitly in their state media. Genocide and ethnic cleansing for Ukraine, all to keep Russia safe? What a joke. It’s imperialism, pure and simple.

          5. jonjoe

How do you feel about democratically-elected presidents being toppled?
Like happened in Egypt, like happened in Ukraine in the same period, like happened in many places where the US didn’t approve of the result, from Iran in the 1950s to the present day – including the recent coup attempts in Venezuela and Bolivia.

The US have been at it for a long time. Or maybe you feel the 2014 coup in Ukraine was somehow democratic?

          6. bisted

…being democratically elected is one thing but you can have the wrong type of democracy…for Nigel, it must be Democrat approved democracy…Trump being elected was the wrong type of democracy…he whinged for four years solid during the Trump presidency…Biden makes no secret of who his next target for regime change is yet Nigel denies Russia should feel under existential threat…

      2. Ian - oG

This is the person he is talking about above:

MK Bhadrakumar: ”It has transformed into an incredibly diverse movement that made inroads into all communities and ethnic groups, has diversified external relations in the West and East alike, and is hankering for legitimacy.”

Who is this wonderful, outreaching and diverse ‘movement’ he refers to you ask?

        The Taliban.

    1. SailorGerry

Thanks f_lawless, the link you posted seems like an accurate assessment to me and is also how I expect events to unfold.

There will be lots more false flagging and screams of genocide, but the outcome will not alter and Russia will finish what it started. NATO will fight against Russia to the last Ukrainian.

Big push for the May Day parade on the 9th….

      1. stephen moran

There will be quite a few empty spaces amongst the ranks on the parade ground and amongst the reviewing stand this year this year as it seems the Russian army are great lads for old shiny boots and cocky marching up and down routine beloved of pseudo soldiers and not much use at actually fighting an army that has the temerity and poor manners to shoot back when defending their homeland from invasion and naked neo-Czarist aggression

        1. Cú Chulainn

Russia, as you pointed out yesterday Stephen, has utterly destroyed its WW2 and Cold War legacy. In time, were it not for this invasion, Russia would most likely have been seen as the good guy and the only break on US foreign policy which has left devastation across our planet. As for the fake news allegations: it’s only fake if it isn’t true and it is true that Russia is engaged in the indiscriminate murder of civilians. It really doesn’t matter if the lens if pulled or focused in a particular way for maximum impact. A sharpened image is still the image. Unless a deal has been struck to cede the east region, always a possibility, expect a Pyrrhic victory for the Russians, followed by regime change and the eventual end of the European theatre of WW2.

      2. Nigel

The standard of proof for proving Russian War crimes: incredibly high.
The standard for proving highly elaborate ‘false flags’: non existent.

    1. Rob_G

I’m not an expert on military matters, but is an army withdrawing from territory they had just captured having lost 10% of their combat strength typically regarded as ‘winning’?

    2. SOQ

Absolutely two wars going on but how do you measure who is winning the propaganda one? We are only seeing one side, as the other is banned but, given that Putin’s ratings are at a near all time high- who is winning on the other side of the fence?

Interesting that there is never any talk about Zelenskyy’s ratings. We know they were very low before this all started but not a word since. In fact, the one group who’s opinions are never mentioned at all in this war are the people who are trying to live there. Then again he did ban all opposition parties- so much for democracy eh?

      1. Nigel

Why are we suddenly seeing people seperately use the ‘two wars going on’ phrase and acting like it’s some amazing insight?

Well known rule – dictators with absolute control over state media are allowed to invade the countries of any democratically-elected leader with lower ratings than them.

        1. Ian - oG

Because this is all some sort of a game to a lot of them.
Being right is all that matters.

  5. TenPin Terry

As I warned in this esteemed organ several weeks ago the problem of housing up to 200,000 Ukrainian refugees is a high speed fright train heading straight towards this government.
The Indo reports up to 10,000 could be without accommodation by the end of this month according to a secret briefing to Cabinet.
The generosity of people opening up their homes has not been matched by any official support.
Tents are being erected at army barracks with B&Bs and hotels already choked with capacity.
And that’s on top of the 10,000 pre-Ukraine refugees already living in emergency accommodation.
Meanwhile between now and the end of the day another 580 Ukrainians will arrive.
As they will tomorrow and every other day for the foreseeable future.
It’s going to get very, very messy.

      1. SOQ

Problem is, Ukrainians can travel anywhere in the EU now which means there is no limit to the amount who can come here. All of these figures- 10k, 20k 30k- are plucked out of thin air because there is nothing stopping 1 m + arriving.

Interesting that while British intelligence are involved in the war and therefore contributing to the refugee problem, Britain itself has much tighter immigration controls in place and will be taking much less than Ireland.

      1. TenPin Terry

        It’s happening.
It’s just that the UK’s first priority is giving Ukraine enough military support that its citizens will one day have a country to go back to.

        1. jonjoe

Leo said the other day to expect 200,000 Ukranian immigrants over the next 4 years.
He also said lots of them would be staying, i.e. not going home.

He didn’t say anything about housing them, schooling their children, providing health services for them or the like, just “they’re all welcome and fùc the begrudgers”. I paraphrase, of course.

  6. NobleLocks

Great to see Boris come out and finally say that so called “trans women” i.e. Men, need to be kept out of women’s sports. Now all we need is for the rest of the UK to implement the EHRC recommendations and using the sword of fairness and common sense; slay the evil worm that is inclusivity and diversity. And I have a good feeling that it will :)

We should only be a few years behind here then too. And thus the pendulum swung.

    1. Ian - oG

Hang on, don’t you support a movement that blockaded an entire city for two weeks, running engines, spewing fumes and blasting horns for a lot of that time? I mean, you also support the invasion of a soveriegn state, the destruction of its cities and the massacring of its people, come to that. But walking out on somone and sabotaging a sound system is fascism? Dearie me.

Tonight I shall be raising a glass of foaming ale to one of Blighty’s greatest poets, William Wordsworth, who was born on this day in 1770.
            In a place called Cockermouth.
            Which is nice.
            Such a way with words.

‘ My heart leaps up when I behold
            A rainbow in the sky:
            So was it when my life began;
            So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
            Or let me die!
            The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be

V get a hold of yourself!
You’re whinging about someone commenting on a third party platform. You’ve often posted here clearly tired and emotional yourself.
Leave SOQ alone and let him be.

          8. V aka Frilly Keane

            Ok Mads

Point to where I posted porn links
            Doxxed
            Threatened to dox
            Defamed
            Demonstrated any form of racism
            Or alt white ism
Or deliberately and knowingly posted lies about other commenters
            And Columnists for that matter

You’ve a good 10 years of activity here to find even one example of the above

Just because the GO’D campaign tried to make all that true
            Doesn’t mean they managed it
            Not one
So let’s have ye turn out now to help Mad prove himself this time

          9. Mad

Don’t you believe in allowing sinners repent V?
If Bodger banned everyone who was awful at one stage or another there would be no one left

          10. Mad

            V get a grip
We’ve all done things we regret
Own your own drunken rants on here and we can forgive you

          11. V aka Frilly Keane

            And?

Have I ever denied a single word here lads?
            Drunk
            Ranted
            Or anything else

Tell you what, pull one up there for the craic
And let’s see if I can’t match it with a beauty, might be a screen shot mind, nonetheless
Let’s see if anything of mine comes within pointing_from_ a_placed_ball distance of what the SoQuo Quackers have put out

            I wouldn’t if I were you,
I actually feel sorry for the man

” You sound like a complete headcase.”
This from someone who only minutes earlier wrote ” Britain’s turning into a right wing sh 1 thole and with a women beater as their PM and a pederast escorting their monarch about (and he is just one of many) it’s no surprise.”
You’re not a headcase old cock, just an imbecile.

He’s good isn’t he, I’d say he literally goes off like a kettle whistle when he’s called any names…. especially the name that rhymes with boomer and starts with ok.

      1. TenPin Terry

Based on his ouvre I’d say that zinger just flew right over his carrot head …

Funnily enough I have another long-haul sunshine sojourn planned for next month – basically just using up airline vouchers from the start of the pandemic.
I’m thinking of changing my username to Phileas Fogg just for the lols.
Anything planned yourself for this year squire ?
I hear Trabolgan has had a paint job.

          1. Cú Chulainn

I suppose you’d know about trabolgan Charger… having just had your fantasy holiday there..!!

            Unlikely old sport.
A quick internet search reveals it doesn’t open for the 2022 season until tomorrow.
            But God loves a trier.
            Bless.

    1. GiggidyGoo

Well, the coffers of Actavo and the other, erm, broadband ‘experts’ have €3000,000,000 approx. coming to them, so failures of the likes of digicel make no difference when our money can keep him afloat.

“Russia’s rights of membership in the UN Human Rights Council has just been suspended. War criminals have no place in UN bodies aimed at protecting human rights. Grateful to all member states which supported the relevant UNGA resolution and chose the right side of history.”
