Bono and The Edge – Walk On Ukraine

Lyrically-adjusted. acoustic rendering of ‘Walk On’ off U2’s All That You Can’t Leave Behind (2000).

Via Bono and The Edge:

“The brave people of Ukraine are fighting for their freedom — and for ours — in the face of unspeakable violence and an unjust invasion. More than 4 million people, mostly women and children, have had to flee for their lives — a population nearly the size of Ireland. World leaders must stand up and stand by Ukranians now … those who are fighting and those who have fled … and stand with refugees everywhere who have been forced from their homes and their lands.”

I see Grim is at his already customary trick of firmly grasping the wrong end of the stick & refusing to let go.

  2. Fo

    Ouch, terrible stuff
I’m a fan of hip hop and rap but that was shocking. Didn’t make it through

image getting taken and owned by promoting a self described ‘influencer’.

    American rapper,yeah maybe if you a paddy from Ireland,maybe yeah….you don’t get to NY or LA much,huh,he’s a FACEBOOK character,he ain’t no ‘rapper’,whatever that is in 2022.

…The most popular link on Facebook about the Johnson & Johnson news was shared by a conspiracy theorist and self-described “news analyst & hip-hop artist” named An0maly who thinks the pandemic is a cover for government control…..

Most rappers are signed directly off Youtube, johnny, the record companies scour the internet, instead of going to gigs in dives, as they used to. They closely interview their potential employees & if they find the right combination of compliance & greed, the artist is promoted to the top rank. It’s why much modern rap is unlistenable, along with the fact that they’ve stopped using samples from musically competent artists, who copped on & now charge top dollar for the use of their work, so most of the backing tracks are awful, wandering in & out of key in a way that can make anyone with decent pitch feel slightly queasy. Travis Scott, who headlined the recent event which saw numerous deaths among the audience, was an unknown, even among afficianados of the genre & was signed after two YouTube videos. The critics are not kind to his repetitive, autotuned rap, either.
These are among the reasons why the Music Industry is a pale shadow of it’s former self, both artistically & in commercial terms.

Have we forgotten the fact of all the internet scams and fraudsters that have targeted the west for the last few years
      War or no war

      1. anti bot

At least they tried something, unlike the knobs on here refusing to deny that Russia invaded a sovereign country and are kill innocent people. How come all the covid deniers on here are also anti Ukraine. Do you all wear maga hats?

        1. GiggidyGoo

Why are you including me? Point me to anywhere I wrote something anti-Ukraine. Once you find you cannot, go and post your drivel on another thread.

        2. Gavin

Jaysus you went off on one there…Even if it was for kids with cancer… it’s still god awful…[Disclaimer: Invasion of Ukraine is wrong, providing context never is.]

        3. Dinkum

Yes Russia did invade a sovereign nation and yes many innocent people have died and yes millions displaced and no we do not want to sleep walk into a nuclear war if NATO is involved and no I would not like a basket case of an economy and a country that is one of the most corrupt nations on this planet without reform admitted to the EU
          WAR OR NO WAR

        4. K. Cavan

It wasn’t a sovereign country, Aunty Bot, no matter how many times you reiterate it in your drivelling posts. It seems to bother you that anyone other than America engages in war, why is that?
At least you acknowledge that Russia invaded, the US usually destroys countries then invades the smoking ruins.
Invasions are bad, Annihilation & Invasion is a crime against humanity, drone-bombing 8 countries you haven’t actually declared war on, as current US President, Barry Obama, did, is actually Terrorism.
Will you acknowledge that the US is the leading terrorist state & the only country on the planet that has engaged in wars & invasions in the last 30 years & for many years prior?

  4. GiggidyGoo

That’s an embarrassing video by the U2 lads. Like something you’d get in a pub in Courtown in the summer with a couple of jackeens up ‘singing’, making a show of themselves. Jeebus. I feel sorry for their long-time fans to witness the descent into this type of tripe.

    1. anti bot

See comment above. What are you doing to stop a war. Being disparaging is not going to create peace? Surely you can answer that question?

      1. Verbatim

Well, it’s kind of obvious from the above, we are not going to sing our way out of this mess!

      2. GiggidyGoo

Don’t be such an idiot anti bot. Why are you such an idiot? Go on, tell us. No? Surely you can answer that question? What are you doing to stop a war. C’mon, tell us. Why haven’t you told us? Answer the question.
        etc.etc. etc.

        1. anti bot

I’m posting on here trying to stop the “there is no war” idiots spouting drivel and then running away when called out. I never singled you out specifically as being anti Ukraine but you tend to jump on band wagons. also I hate begrudgers. Not a fan of U2 but at least a world famous band are making an effort to promote peace, but you weigh in with “that song is terrible” as opposed to a begrudgry comment about the fact that they are doing something.

          1. Sara

They’re not doing anything to promote peace. This is about promoting Bono and his massive ego. There’s no tragedy he wouldn’t exploit.

          2. Me so Harney

Nobody is calling it a war you clown.

Not even the Ukranians, because if they call it a war, the IMF wont lend to them, and then they cant buy British arms.

    2. K. Cavan

I don’t think they have many fans, these days, Giddy, except of their older work. The other three are all rocked out but Bono keeps dragging them back, so he can continue to engage in his fantasy of being a “rock star”, even though someone should’ve got it into his head that the game’s up, by now.
It’s noticeable that the rhythm section have declined to be part of this nonsense & I’d assume Edge is there because he’s basically an easygoing guy, who is far too easily swayed by Bono.

    1. K. Cavan

Bono is not a Christian, he’s an evil, globalist, racist System Pig, an Oligarch of the worst sort, right up there with his perverted pals, Soros & Gates.
He will burn in hell. This monstrosity & his recent attempt to follow that idiot ex-rockabilly woman into the world of “poetry” are enough to guarantee his damnation.

  5. f_lawless

At the end of the day you have to wonder, to whom is it a benefit – the people trying to survive in a war-torn country or some guy with a need to feed his over-inflated ego?

    Cui Bono Bono???? :p

    1. K. Cavan

Obviously, it’s what you’re implying, flawless but nobody is wondering, we all know the answer.
When Bono warms up his voice before gigs, you hear “Do, Re, Me, Me, Me…”

  6. E'Matty

Can one be graded with a “Z”? That was atrocious and deeply satisfying at the same time. Someone needs to put a stop to Bono’s continued crimes against humanity.

  7. Mad

I’m going to go against the prevailing consensus here and say I really enjoyed it. For a start it was the sound of two multi-millionaires at play who may or may not care, even in the least, what any broadsheet commentary about them is.
The second thing is that what their motives are for doing it are neither here nor there, I think people here should try making a few million selling records themselves before launching a lot of careers in music journalism.

  8. K. Cavan

Basically, if you’re on the opposite side from Bono, on any subject, you’re probably correct. If you find yourself allied to him, best take a shower in some holy water & book a few sessions with a therapist.

    1. Bodger

Walk On was about Aung San Suu Kyi, who was under house arrest at the time. She has since become a war criminal.
