Shanghai Nights [Updated]

Good grief.

Earlier…

Last night/this morning.

Shanghai, China.

Via Al Jazeera:

Shanghai has eased a punishing citywide lockdown that it imposed to break a surge in cases that is the biggest test of China’s two-year strategy to stamp out the disease wherever it appears.

Authorities in Shanghai introduced the three-tier disease control system, allowing residents in areas where no cases have been reported for 14 days to leave their homes so long as they follow health protocols and remain in their sub-district.

Those living in areas where no cases have been confirmed for seven days are allowed to collect food deliveries or take a walk at a designated time and location.

For Omicrom? A variant which is for most people nothing more than a cold, assuming the have symptoms at all of course- completely OTT, bizarrely so.

Also proves the vaccines on that side of the world are just as useless as here of course.

people are seeing China respond like this like it’s a new thing, like it’s in response to something recent but it’s not. The rest of the world may have de-escalated but China never have. I know two people in China, one in Shanghai, and this is just the (frustrating) norm for them. A city or area reaches enough documented cases, no matter how severe, and they lock down. Once those cases reduce over a certain amount of time, they open back up. It’s like taking a missile to a wasp nest, massive overkill with negative long-lasting effects but ultimately effective.

…and there’s you with the medical degree again. Useful thing to have these days. Save up your crisp packets and send them off.

what question did you ask? All I saw was your sneery, bitchy comment, like all your other sneery, bitchy abusive comments.

          1. SOQ

Your constant attempts to put other people down is you problem, nobody else’s.

            Are you really that insecure?

Seems the Chinese are doing what China dose and last time the world sat back and allow China to lie through their teeth we witnessed covid 19 and we knew nothing about how deadly it is
As you say this is OTT for omicron but not if the mutation is delta for deadliness and omicron for speed
Or maybe lambada crossed with something else
Have we not learnt yet about trust and communist states be it Russia China North Korea

    2. Dinkum

Seems to me China is sitting on a more deadly variant than omicron hence the shutdown and the WHO are deaf
Maybe the WHO needs to pop over there and investigate
Last time we trusted China we had 2years of lockdown and many deaths
Seems it’s not eating bats in a market that brought this on

        Chinas latest plague SOQ
I HAD THE ORIGINAL COVID 19 in December 2019
It was called the Japanese flu then

‘Media will sell out their principles very easily.’

I have to disagree as regards Ireland anyway. Our media have no principles

That article about Sweden is very interesting

“For the inevitable conclusion must be that millions of people had been denied their freedom, and millions of children had had their education disrupted, all for nothing.”

    cough cough…

Is that the same Tegnell who encouraged and facilitate the use of insane levels of experimental gene therapies/vaccines…

        1. SOQ

Yes- his specialist area is vaccines- which is why he now has one of the top jobs in the WHO- well that and that he was 100% correct about the pandemic.

The ‘better have him inside peeing out than outside peeing in’ rule was applied I expect. He is now effectively muzzled.

The authors of the Great Barrington Declaration are all also very pro vaccines of course- which is a completely separate issue to the lockdowns and masks rubbish.

Strange how the Chinese now seem to be using their bio weapon against their own economy, rather than the rest of the world’s or is this just phase 7 of 14 we have entered?

    1. SOQ

There is a guy on TikTok who goes into the dog slaughter markets and buys as many as he can- it is absolutely heart-breaking watching their poor faces. I know they treat dog meat the same as others, but still.

Once they get fed and recover- they are just so happy and grateful to be alive.

It is a thing in parts of Africa too apparently.

      1. The Millie Obnoxious™

Yeah it’s not really a thing in metropolitan areas of China anymore, but it’s more common in rural or more impoverished areas. The wealth disparity is insane.

          1. The Millie Obnoxious™

I actually don’t know to be honest. They’re much less squeamish than we are in the west about using the whole of the animal, and using animals we wouldn’t consider as a food source.

But then, as I said, the poverty divide over there is really something.

          2. Oro

Always struck me as intellectually lazy to get upset about somebody else eating a dog as you much down on a burger and call them horrible. I don’t think any animal willingly would go along with being bred for human consumption but here we are. As Millie said they’re more sustainable in their approach in that they will waste less and use more parts of the animal, seems hypocritical to call their practices horrible when we consume an awful lot of animal products everyday.

          3. SOQ

I never mentioned anything about using parts or whole of an animal. As for it being horrible- IMO it absolutely is- and cruel- disgusting actually.

Why does everything have to be distilled down to a criticism with you people? Why this incessant need to nit-pick and find fault with what other people say? Is that the way you interact with people in the real world too?

          4. Oro

I never said that that was what you did say. I think you rush into your replies without actually reading what people have said sometimes. It makes these threads very disjointed.

My point was yes I agree it is largely cruel and horrible for the animal, but this is true of any animal that is bred for agriculture. I think it’s really hypocritical of people to get upset about dogs when they partake in a system that puts countless animals through cruelty daily. You do eat meat right? And dairy? And wear leather, and use beauty products, etc etc etc etc etc. it’s just dumb to sit there and act high and mighty about the ‘horrible’ Chinese practices when your lifestyle does the exact same thing. And by ‘you’ I mean general population, but also you as in yourself.

And on your last point, I’m not nit picking, I’m disagreeing with something you said. You sit here and do that to others for 20hrs a day, at least I give other commenters some breathing space.

          5. Mad

In what way do you interact with them SOQ?
You seem to struggle a bit with tone in here anyway

          6. SOQ

Right now I do yes- two friggen years of this abuse from idiots who swallowed everything they were fed, and attacked anyone who dared apply any semblance of critical thinking.

And now, it appears, they have learned absolutely nothing- because they are still at it.

          7. Mad

Why do you care so much? To be honest the abuse you’re getting reflects more on the abusive people. Maybe you’ve done some wrong things yourself as V suggests but the vitriol you get here is out of proportion- and I don’t even agree with a lot of what you say, I respect your right to think and say what you want though and deplore the pile in especially from people who are clearly as ignorant as dirt themselves for the most part. Oro, feargan, paul, jungle man etc

Oro you have a long history of being abusive and stupid here to several people but this nonsense about people being “intellectually lazy” by caring about eating dogs etc – what sort of idiot are you? (Please don’t answer)

          8. Oro

@Mad I think you’re mixing me up with someone else. First of all I’ve not even been commenting for 18months so I’m not sure what ‘long history’ you’re referring to.

Secondly, if you don’t mind I wont take lectures on ‘abusive’ commentary from someone that uses homophobic slurs at other commenters every other day as you do. And I generally don’t use direct insults to people or call people names, like you do on the daily. Read yourself first x.
