Ireland rugby international Eimear Considine with a size 5 ball

This afternoon.

Keep the shape.

Lose the girth.

Via RTÉ Sport:

Eimear Considine, who won her 26th Ireland cap against England, is in favour of coming in line with the other sports.

“I actually don’t know the reasons why we use a size 5 ball but it’s worth a discussion,” she tells RTÉ Sport.

“My hands aren’t big enough to a one-handed offload but maybe if there was a smaller ball it might allow for you to be a bit slicker in your offloads.

“Naturally, we have smaller hands, that’s just our physiology, it’s nothing to do with not being able to play with a size 5 ball.:

We’re saying nuffink.

Considines agree rugby needs to grasp smaller ball (RTE)

But nowadays society has done away with different sexes in humanity (strange because all other lifeforms still seem to think there are differing sexes)… so how on this earth can it be that some teams are using a different sized ball, sure there is no difference between men and women.

(are you allowed to say men and women nowadays????)

Exactly… we are all equal and should have the same sized hands… this is anti ball!

Theres an obvious solution to all this, any women with sub-sized hands will be made to get hand enlargement surgery

Presumably the ladies who played for the French and English teams that trounced Ireland had the same sized hands ? Work persons blaming tools etc.

she’s not saying that tho. she wasn’t saying anything about it, she was asked about the ball size and gave an honest answer. I think it would help with kicking too. if theres a try in the corner theres about 5 women kickers who have a hope of even reaching the posts with the conversion.

If only she were raised differently, as in raised like a boy, she’d have bigger hands….. >_<

So say some numpties on here.

I have never understood why woman’s rugby uses the size 5 ball. The GAA ball is smaller than a soccer ball allowing maximum manipulation. There are women with hands big enough to deliver a hand off whilst having their other hand free for the fend off, (slight shudder) but they are few and far between. Scooping, gripping, flicking, passing about, all the while moving at speed and fending or pinning the opponent at the same time are essential moves on the playing pitch and most women need a smaller ball with which to achieve all the above. The game is hard enough.

yeah, i think even underage teams play with the full size ball which makes little sense.

Why not a round ball or even a lighter one
    Poor dears
Rugby has to be changed to suit them
The regulation size of a rugby ball internationally is size 5
I had a chef who we named small hands because he said he could not peel potatoes because of small hands
So he would quarter them then peel they
Needless to say he lasted a day
If they want to play the sport quit the moaning

by that logic we’d be removing protective gear from the lads tackle

It makes no sense to have women play with a men’s size ball. Let them play with a ball thats proportionate to their hand size and it’ll improve the game for both players and spectators.

this is titilation temptation. and I will be drawn into it ..
she could try using her [Banned] too

Since when has the size of the ball become an issue?

As former Triple Crown, Championship and Grand Slam winners, why now?
